Most of her male characters do tend to be either incompetent compared to the female lead or have their negative character traits defined and emphasised. The only exception is in Inuyasha, and the male characters in that series can be seen more as wish-fulfilment (given that's basically what isekai boil down to).

A case can certainly be made.

Not to mention all the mengs getting beat-up in her series for the gags l0l.

InuYasha with the osuwari, Miroku getting slapped by Sango & Ranma 1/2, I can't remember all that well but I think I remember him getting beat-up a-lot too by Akane (was it?).

Then there's the more serious stuff with Onigumo/Naraku.

The female mangaka who created Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku and Inuyasha.

I wouldn't exactly say she's a misandrist given she likes to serialize her manga in shonen and seinen magazines and the majority of her MCs are males, and it's typical in shows with a strong female focus for males to be boke characters anyway. By that logic, Toriyama could be considered misandrist because he made Yamcha an incompetent with a crippling fear of women, Goku an uneducated, naive child who couldn't count properly, and Roshi a complete pervert.

I wouldn't say that Toriyama comparison is that apt, given those characters still had their positive traits highlighted such as Goku's growth in learning about society or Roshi having his serious side. Whilst I find the idea idiotic on its own, comparing Takahashi to saying Toriyama is a misogynist would have more to chew on. The rest of what you said is spot on Kenshi

Fantastische Hure As for the osuwari point, I'd say that wouldn't really hold up. You could draw something from it essentially making the protagonist a girl's lapdog, though it seems to be more of a tribute to Sanzhang's control of Sun Wukong via his crown in Journey to the West.

But Bulma was also in jokes. No-one was really given preferential treatment in that regard in DragonBall. Rumiko Takahashi always let's the female characters get in the last word and they are never in the wrong end of a comedic situation. The only time I can think of period, was Kikyo & Naraku.

This kind-of reminds me that a few years ago I made a thread asking why everyone always sides with Kagome in InuYasha and some-how InuYasha is always in the wrong according to the characters.

About the closest thing Takahashi said to a misandrist comment was when she said she made Jakotsu of the Shichinintai a homosexual so Inuyasha wouldn't have to kill a female iirc. Other than that she doesn't seem to be sexist; most of the powerful villains in Ranma and Inuyasha tend to be males (Herb, that phoenix guy at the end of R1/2, Sesshomaru, Naraku) and most of her main characters are males too.

What about the gais always being at the wrong end of a joke or getting beaten-up for jokes? Women empowerment?

I think it's because it's just more socially acceptable for males to be hit by females than the reverse.

True, but the females are never the jokes in a joke. It doesn't have to be a physical beat-up joke, but just any joke.

Meh what she does isn’t all that different from what older sitcoms do, just more animefied. It’s just outdated tropes, i.e. useless bum guys whom the girls clean up after at home...but the guy is still the one who steps up when it counts. Lum isn’t much better of a portrayal of females than Ataru is of males either, for example, imo.
