From what I've read out of that thread,I still don't understand, why people use Piccolo's confidence as evidence of him having SSJ power.
His supposed confidence only shows up when Super Saiyan Goku is on his side or after the androids' power has already been demonstrated to be weaker than predicted.

Back then when people strength checkers, daizenshuu etc., aren't their source yet.

Both the Japanese anime and VIZ have Piccolo expressing confidence in his own power. Why would both of them randomly make that up?

I think jackjack was amazing in that thread. You guys should read all the thread (page 4-19). I don't think there's something he didn't cleared up ITT, his logic was perfect.

@GokhanDBZfan - Piccolo was the one who warned them to show only if they have confidence in their own power. Piccolo showed and still backed up his confidence with that comment. Green man was the one to incite the war too.

The Japanese Anime and Viz have no precedence here. Viz ascertained that Hercules name was something completely different from what Akira Toriyama stated.

Viz I would maybe agreed with you (though they know pretty well the context sometimes), but you're wrong about the Japanese anime (Orange Bricks). Their translation is pretty good, made by a guy who knows Japanese (Steven Simmons), and are widely accepted as accurate. There's people who likes the Steven Simmons translations better than Herms.

If I recall correctly, Piccolo is quite sure he could handle the Androids in the anime. That's the most direct line of them all.

The Anime should be garbaged completely, nobody should ever bring it up in a debate. Viz has been falsified by Toriyama, their credibility is shaky at best.

Why do people resort to secondary sources to represent direct translations?

People nitpick it because in the original Piccolo didn't specify his own power, even though he was the one to incite the war against #20. Supposing Goku would be too busy with one android, he would have to handle the other (while having Tenshinhan as a hamper lol).

Yeah in the Steven Simmons translations Piccolo said he was sure he could beat the androids.
