Just how canon is the anime compared to the manga?

So I'm in this debate with a person on Youtube (SSJRyu1). He insists that everything in the anime, including fillers are just as canon and reliable to that of the manga.

E.g. he says since Gohan-Boo can collapse the Universe (filler) he's a universe buster, which automatically makes anything above him for example Beerus a "universe+" buster.
Goku collected Ki from all over the universe when fighting Majin Boo etc. etc.

I personally view the anime to be quite equal to the manga, unless they contradict each other. When contradictions happen, the manga goes before the anime.

How do you view the anime compared to the manga? Is it equal in terms of reliability? Superior, inferior?

I think considering the anime equally as canon as the manga is an attempt to justify watching it. People don't want to feel like they wasted their time, and "non-canon" is often seen as "it doesn't matter." They think "I spent all that time on it! I want it to matter!" It could also be used to support bias like putting SSJ3 Goku above Gohan-Buu(which is ridiculous) or putting Broly above Janemba.

For me, anything non-contradictory in the anime is fine as it can help flesh out characters, but Goku saying Kid Buu is "a whole different level than all the Buus before" is ludicrous.

Manga is the original story. All AT's opinion are there in the Manga. Anime on the other hand is base on the manga but with Toei's filler involved.

Yeah, SSJ3 I could buy. This is what he stated "Beerus is way past Universal+ by scaling as Beerus > Golden Frieza > SSJGSSJ >>>> base Goku BoG timeline > Buuhan who is already universal."
He confirmed he was referring to Base Goku (Pre God).

The anime is not on the same level as the manga. However, the original Japanese subtitles for non-filler parts of the story can certainly be looked at as more reliable than the Viz manga translation. Depends on which part of the anime you are watching. Obviously filler was not in the original story, so it is not canon.

Anime skips to a lot of conclusions for example they said kid Buu was way stronger than his other forms which was never stated in the manga.
If anything the manga shows evidence of kid Buu being weaker than S.Buu

Even the Gohan Boo feat doesn't mean anything anime-wise. Vegetto stated that the universe would be crushed by alternate dimensions collapsing onto each other, not by Boo's power. Boo simply opened up small holes in these dimensions, which would cause it to be destroyed via chain reaction. Besides, even if we take the anime into account, BoG disproves any character being even close to universe level, with Whis seemingly treating Solar System busting as a big deal.

As for the question at hand, multiple inconsistencies in both power chains and continuity added due to the anime stop it being canon to the manga. Kai is somewhat acceptable though up until the Cell Arc.
