Without plot armour, Judai likely wins. Realistically, Jonouchi was a pretty bad duelist until the Waking the Dragons filler arc since his deck otherwise relied heavily on luck based cards. Without Hermos, he'd lose, though with Hermos he may have a slight chance.

GX duelists (at least manga wise) are weaker than Original Series ones, since their cards are way less broken. Against Jonouchi, it depends on the rolls of cards like 'Graceful Dice' and 'Time Wizard'.

In the anime of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Pegasus said Yugi & Kaiba & Jōnouchi & Edo & someone-else were the top 5 duelist in that order in-terms of skill in his opinion. :galu :galu :galu

Pegasus' opinion doesn't mean much when he relied purely on his Millennium item and became a jobber after losing it. :troll

Also, Jonouchi's "skill" is purely reliant on luck, so Pegasus' statement may as well be him ranking plot armour. :troll

But having Pegasus say that is as good as the anime-writers themselves saying it, or is it not?

Realistically Judai-Kun should win.

Anime Wise, Judai should still win because of protagonist power

However with nostalgia and DM's favoritism being rampant Joey may pull of the win somehow.

If they wrote this duel nowadays, Joey would certainly win. Duel Monsters has favoritism and nostalgia on its side, especially over GX, which is often regarded as the red-headed stepchild of the original trio series. In-universe, Jaden should probably win given how strong he got at the end of his show, but I'm still leaning on Joey lucking his way into a close victory.

edit: Actually, you know what? Nah. Jaden definitely wins. He challenged Yugi Fucking Moto and was doing pretty well for himself in a duel that was solely for fun, meaning neither competitor was likely using kill tactics at every turn. Jaden also has Yubel to aid him.
