Only 55 as well. He'll go down as one of the best. A true legend.

Sorry dudes. Good they left it a while for those who knew him to deal with it and stuff without it being in the Japanese news or the media trying to talk to them (although idk how much the media is like that in Japan)

Wish anime/manga was a bit more mainstream popular so this would get some press coverage and a TV segment about him or something. Bit weird to have something that's such major news for us and the anime/manga community but it gets no coverage, you know? Searched BBC website and just got a thing about a 53 year old soccer player called Miura ("a professional footballer at 53 - how he does it")

Was curious to know how he'd end it with Griffiths and Guts. Now just gotta hear fan theories for eternity, unless he wrote it down or told his assistants.

The guy's work was super high quality for years on end. This most recent Fantasia arc looked great. It's sad he won't get to finish it. RIP

Was suggested this article likely due to viewing this thread, but this is the most mainstream coverage I've found:

Even that was only posted today.

Pretty sad to know the manga definitely will never be finished and what people joked about due to his hiatuses turned out to be true. Perhaps he wrote something down so it can be given an ending in some form (novel maybe?) but that's wishful thinking. Aside from his work, Miura also seemed like a pretty cool guy with his interests in a wide array of sci-fi, fantasy and historical trivia. Shame the manga industries lost one of the few greats it still has.

A backlog of just how overworked and under-socialized Miura-san truly was. Those people saying his hiatuses were due to laziness can all suck it. The man literally worked himself to death, and even said he feared dying before he can conclude the series in a French interview back in 2019.

The BBC put it on their website too around midday.

Anyone know if it was on TV?

If he said he was scared of dying before finishing it in 2019, maybe that makes it more likely he did leave behind what he wants the ending to be, somewhere (in a safe place or with his assistants).

RIP. I imagine that, unlike in American comics, the odds are very low that another author will take up his work and finish the story. Certainly a one of a kind story teller.

That remains to be seen. His assistants were also working on another manga Duranki in which Miura was pretty hands off and just doing things like storyboards. He's said before that the propose of the manga in part was to prepare his staff to work on Berserk, so maybe they will.

It's possible they'll continue in some capacity as his side projects were made primarily to improve his editors' skills and he had doubts Berserk would end before his death. One of them also made a strange tweet translating roughly as "I'll do my best" that suggests there'll at least be some attempt of continuation.
We'll probably get at least a few chapters based on what storyboards and plot points Miura had written down since his studio hasn't closed down yet. Whether or not we'll see a full continuation though past that has yet to be seen.
