Legend of the DragonBalls was longer than the 22nd Tenkaichi-Budokai

It's not really that surprising. After all, the former is an adventure arc spent exploring a variety of locations and introducing just as varied an amount of characters, whereas the latter is a pretty standard and very linear tournament arc.

True but I guess it's because the first arc was only 13 episodes in the anime. The Piccolo-Daimao saga isn't that much longer either, despite the epic scale.

Like CC said, therly were still exploring characters and places hence why it was longer. 22nd BK only need to explore Shen and his pupils that's all.

I always lumped 22nd tournament and King Piccolo arc together.

I could see that but I think you could also start at them talking post-tournament and Tenshinhan telling everyone that he'd take them out to eat and consider that the start of the Piccolo-Daimao saga, since the context sort-of explains itself when they talk but then that's also the end of the tournament so they kind-of bleed into each other.

I kind-of find it hard to find a cut-off point for the Piccolo-Daimao saga though since Goku defeats him and then goes straight to Karin and he sends him to God (IIRC; haven't seen in a while).

Yeah, I'd say the two should be treat as separate arcs. Even though the events of the 22nd TB lead directly into the Piccolo Daimao Arc through Kuririn's death, focus and tone of both arcs are otherwise completely disconnected.

If any arc were to be paired up with the Piccolo Daimao events, it'd be the 23rd TB since it's a direct sequel of the Piccolo events, and even then I'd be hesitant to pair the two with how different in quality the two are.

I'd say using the 3 year timeskip as the cutoff point makes the most sense. Aside from it skipping three years to indicate a change, ending with the revival of Piccolo's victims makes the most sense as far as catharsis for the arc goes.

True but by then it's already alluded that Piccolo Jr. will challenge Goku and Goku's training for that. You could say it's like Spider-Man & 2. There are story-lines that extend beyond such as Harry's father dying and him being angry about it but still being their own separate entity. I wouldn't say it's wrong to just put them both under the umbrella of a larger Piccolo saga in-general.

In both cases, however, there were establishing points for those events prior to the 2nd major part, with the ending of Spider-Man adding these plot threads for later on in its finale whilst having an epilogue after the climactic fight. If anything, I'd say that comparison solidifies the timeskip as the cut-off point.

Yeah, I also feel that the Piccolo Daimao arc began too soon after the 22nd Budokai's conclusion. There were a gap of hours -- or not even that -- between Goku and Tenshinhan's fight and the beginning of their next bout.

I always considered the 23rd Budokai as part of the Piccolo Daimao's arc. Piccolo Junior was still treated with the same intensity and fear his dead was until nearly the end and was there to accomplish what his father failed to do. At most I'd divide it in two segments/parts.
