They may be of different species but Luffy emphasized how he had to become huge with G4 to deal with those huge monsters... seems like the emphasis was on the size of those monsters rather than them being a different kind of beast compared to big monsters. As for the OP, the animals are of a different species to those Sanji and Zoro beat, so that's a pretty big false equivalence. The island was also one chosen by a veteran like Rayleigh for training, so it'd make less sense if the animals upon it weren't different from the norm.
