How much damage does the Mafuba do outside of containment? I'm mostly asking due to my rewatch of Super and I'm unfamiliar with the move from the original DB. Frost looked out of breath when Roshi used it on him and missed, but he recovered pretty quickly. Vegeta burst out of the bottle with no effect and I think Zamasu was more concerned than anything.

Just wondering how well it worked as an attack in and of itself.

Sorry for disgracing the original show by using Super logic, but it seemed interesting.

It doesn't really seem to do any damage in either version, considering such is never noted. The breathlessness around some characters when breaking out probably has more to do with the stress of being warped into a gaseous, spiritual form and then back to normal all of a sudden would have on the body.

All that's really known about its sealing properties is that the user will die if not close enough in Ki to the target (Mutaito dying using it on Daimao whereas Tenshinhan survived using it on Drum in the anime and Kami saw it as his perfect way to get rid of Piccolo without suicide) and that it'll be completely ineffective if the gap between the user and target is too large (Roshi saying he couldn't use it himself on Zamasu and Piccolo pretty much abandoning it after his one Mafuba Gaeshi against Kami when it could've otherwise been a good option against Nappa or Cell).

I think it's more disorienting than anything. Kami seemed to be in perfect health when he was released from the jug that Piccolo sealed him in.

Bumping this as I was skimming through the Goku Black Arc. After Trunks uses the Mafuba, Black says Zamasu's energy is is coming and going, while also growing considerably weaker. This was after Zamasu escaped. Worth noting that the Mafuba may in fact cause damage.

I don't think it caused damage, but it might have weakened Zamasu's yuuki and shouki due to the considerable shock to his normally unshaken confidence in his invincibility

Very fair reasoning. I also wondered if at all it had to do with Zamasu being mystical in nature and affecting him in a way that is different for mortals, which Piccolo Dameao was retconned to be, and those we saw in the ToP.
