The anime is quite clearly a different beast than the game we know, so what are some of the cards that you thought were incredibly broken even for anime standards?

I'd say:

The Winged Dragon of Ra
Level 10/DIVINE/Divine-Beast/ATK????/DEF????
This card cannot be Set. This card can only be Tribute Summoned by Tributing 3 monsters. The Normal Summon of this card cannot be negated. When this card is Normal Summoned, Spells, Traps and other monsters' effects cannot be activated. While this card is on the field, control of this card cannot switch and it is unaffected by the effects of Spell Cards, Trap Cards and other monsters. The effect of "The Winged Dragon of Ra" only affects this card for one turn. When this card is Special Summoned from the Graveyard, it is sent to the Graveyard during the End Phase. This card can always attack during the turn it is Summoned. This card's ATK and DEF are equal to the combined ATK and DEF of the monsters Tributed to Summon it, respectively. Once per turn, you may pay 1000 Life Points to destroy all monsters your opponent controls. You can Tribute monsters in order to increase this card's ATK by the Tributed monsters' ATK. You can pay any amount of Life Points in order to increase this card's ATK by the amount of Life Points paid. If you use this effect, you can send one "De-Fusion" in your hand or under your control to the Graveyard in order to reduce this card's ATK to 0 and increase your Life Points by this card's prior ATK. You can activate this effect at any time. During either player's turn, you can pay 1000 Life Points to transform "The Winged Dragon of Ra" into its Phoenix Mode. Until the end of the turn this effect is activated, the ATK and DEF of this card are reduced to 0 (The ATK and DEF of this card return to their respective values prior to this effect's use) and it gains the following effects: ● This card cannot be destroyed by battle, and you take no Battle Damage from battles involving this card. ● This card cannot be targeted and is unaffected by the effects of other monsters, Spells, and Traps. The effect of "The Winged Dragon of Ra" only affects this card for one turn.
Crush Card Virus
Normal Trap
Activate only when a DARK monster with 1000 or less ATK is destroyed by battle from your side of the field. Your opponent destroys all monsters with 1500 ATK or more on their side of the field and in their hand and Deck. (Damage calculation is applied normally.) Those monsters cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard. If this card is not in your Graveyard, negate this effect.
Exodia Necross
Level 4/DARK/Spellcaster/Ritual/Effect/ATK1800/DEF0
You can Ritual Summon this card with "Contract with Exodia". This card gains the following effect(s) while a "Forbidden One" card(s) is in your Graveyard:
● "Exodia the Forbidden One": This card cannot be destroyed by battle. (Damage calculation is applied normally.)
● "Left Leg of the Forbidden One": This card cannot be destroyed by Spell Cards.
● "Right Leg of the Forbidden one": This card cannot be destroyed by Trap Cards.
● "Left Arm of the Forbidden One": This card cannot be destroyed by the effects of other Effect Monsters.
● "Right Arm of the Forbidden One": Whenever this card battles an opponent's monster, it gains 1000 ATK at the end of the Damage Step.
Revival Jam
Level 4/Aqua/Effect/ATK1500/DEF500
When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, its controller can Special Summon it to their side of the field in face-up Defense Position immediately.

Ra is just fucking nuts.

Is Exodia Necross really that good? It sounds like it needs a good amount of setup.

Also was Exoda Necross' strength in the anime ever displayed? The same way original Exodia's was vs Zorc.

It was never displayed like the Zorc battle, but Gozoboru used it against Kaiba in the Virtual World. It took a convenient plot card for Kaiba to win that one.

Ra was unbelievably broken which is why they had to nerf it hell and back when it became a TCG card.
Soul Exchange - Sacrifice ALL monsters your opponent controls
Crush Card

All of Dartz' Orichalcos monsters

Most of Z-ONE's Timelords

Sandion, The Timelord (Lv10 4000/4000) - Invincible to battle and being destroyed by card effects. When it battles your opponent takes 4000 pts. of damage (Dafuq?)

Sephyion, The Ultimate Timelord (Lv10 4000/4000) - Can only be summoned once the other 10 Timelords have been summoned at least once. Once summoned you can summon as many Timelords as possible from your hand, deck, or graveyard and make their ATK 4000. This cards ATK/DEF is equal to all Timelords on the field. If this card would be destroyed in Battle remove one Timelord on the field from play to negate it's destruction make the battle damage 0. (So it effectively has a base ATK of 20,000, revives other monsters and makes their ATK 4000, and can save itself from destruction up to 4 times in a single turn? Dafuq?? Yusei had to bring out the more broken "Clustering Wishes" to defeat it).

Metion, The Timelord (Lv10 0/0) - Can't be destroyed in battle or by card effects. Any battle damage involving this card becomes 0, when this card battles send ALL monsters your opponent controls to their hand deal 300Pts of damage for each one.

Michion & Haion, the Timelord - http://www.crunchyroll.com/yu-gi-oh-5ds/episode-150-thoughts-father-left-behind-667187 Just watch the first few minutes.

Raphion, Timelord (Lv10 0/0) - Can't be destroyed in battle or by card effects and any battle damage involving this card becomes 0. When this card battles a monster, send that monster back to the deck and deal damage equal to it's ATK.

Gabrion, The Timelord (Lv10 0/0) - Can't be destroyed in battle or by card effects and any battle damage involving this card becomes 0. When this card battles a monster send ALL of the cards your opponent controls back to their deck.

Sadion, The Timelord - (Lv10 0/0) - Can't be destroyed in battle or by card effects and any battle damage involving this card becomes 0. When this card battles if your Life Points are lower than 4000, they increase to 4000.

Zushin, The Sleeping Giant (Lv10 0/0) - This card can only be summoned by sacrificing a Lv1 Normal Monster that's been on the field for at least 10 Turns. When summoned it can't be targeted by spell, traps, or monster effects. Negate the special ability of ANY monster this card battles, when this card battles a monster it's ATK/DEF become equal to the opposing monsters ATK +1000.

Clustering Wishes (Trap Card) - When a monster you control is destroyed by battle, you can activate this card to negate the Battle Damage. Then, Special Summon 1 "Stardust Dragon" from your Extra Deck by removing from play the appropriate Synchro Material Monsters from your Graveyard (This Special Summon is treated as a Synchro Summon.) The "Stardust Dragon" Special Summoned by this effect gains ATK equal to the combined ATK of all Dragon-Type Synchro Monsters in your Graveyard. By returning 1 Synchro Monster from your Graveyard to the Extra Deck, select 1 monster your opponent controls and force it to attack. During the End Phase, remove from play this card and the "Stardust Dragon" Special Summoned by this effect. (Yusei used this card to beat Z-ONE and raise Stardust Dragons ATK to 23,000)

Meklord Astro Mekanikle's (Lv12 4000/4000) anime counterpart comes to mind aswell. Once Per Turn it can absorb a Synchro monster and increase it's ATK by that monster's original ATK. You send one Meklord Emperor part from your hand to the grave and Astro Mekanikle will take on that monster's special ability. If Meklord Astro Mekanikle would be destroyed banish 1 Meklord Emperor part from your graveyard to negate it's destruction. At the end phase of your turn you can send the absorbed Synchro monster to the graveyard and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the absorbed Synchro's ATK.

What the fuck? How do you come up with such broken cards and still expect to find a non-BS way to beat them?

Well Yusei never technically destroyed it to beat Aporia but the way he beat it didn't sound that much of an asspull as whipping out a card that literally made Stardust Dragon almost 10x as strong as it normally is.

Earthbound_Immortal_Wiraqocha_Rasca.jpg

Earthbound Immortal Wiracocha Rosqa (Lv10 1/1). In exchange for skipping your Battle Phase make your opponents LP 1 because that's so totally fair.

Savior Star Dragon (Lv10 3800/3000: Majestic Dragon + Stardust Dragon + 1 Lv1 Non Tuner Monster) - When your opponent activates a card effect, Savior Star Dragon can be released to destroy all cards your opponent controls. You can negate 1 monster on the field's special ability and use it as your own. During the end phase you can send this card back to the Extra Deck and special summon Stardust Dragon. (Pretty hard to bring out but it's worth it)

Shooting Star Dragon (Lv10 3300/2500: 1 Synchro Tuner + Stardust Dragon) - Once per turn you can excavate the top 5 cards of your Deck and this card can attack once for every Tuner monster among those 5 cards than shuffle them back into your deck. If your opponents activates a card that would destroy a card/cards you can negate it and destroy it. Once per turn you can remove this card from play to negate one of your opponents attacks and special summon it during the end phase of the turn this effect was activated. (The easiest to bring out, can attack potentially 5 times max, unless you negate it's ability it can't be destroyed, and once per turn it can be destroyed by card effects. Plus the theme the Jap. dub gave it "Clear Mind" is fucking AWESOME!!!).

Shooting Quasar Dragon (Lv12 4000/4000: 1 Synchro Tuner and 2 Non Tuner Synchro Monsters) - The number of times this card can attack depends on the number of Synchro Monsters used to summon it. Negate 1 special ability of EVERY monster your opponent controls. Negate the activation of 1 card your opponent controls and destroy it. Negate any effect damage you may suffer, this card is immune to other card effects. When this card is removed from the field destroy ALL monsters your opponent controls than summon Shooting Star Dragon from your Extra Deck. (With some hefty summoning requirements the anime version can attack 3 times at the very least every battle phase and 5 times max, Yusei used it to beat and destroy 5 otherwise invincible Timelords all at once, it can only be destroyed in battle and if it is it automatically summons the almost as OP Shooting Star Dragon. After making a few good moves in a duel where he was almost dominated by Z-ONE Yusei completely turned the duel around and gained the upperhand with this card).

The Nordic/Polar Gods/Lords of the Aesir (From left to right)

The_Three_Polar_Gods.jpg

Loki, Lord of the Aesir (3300/3000) [1Tuner + 2 or more Non Tuner Monsters]

Once per turn during your battle phase if your opponent activates a spell/trap card negate and destroy it. If this card would be destroyed and sent to the graveyard special summon it during the end phase. When this card is special summoned from the graveyard take 1 trap card from your graveyard and add it to your hand.

Odin, Father of the Aesir (4000/3500) [1 Tuner + 2 or more Non Tuner Monsters]

Make all Divine Beast on your side of the field immune to spell & trap trap cards. If this card would be destroyed in battle or by card effect immediately special summon it from your graveyard during the end phase. When this card is special summoned from your graveyard draw 1 card from your deck.

Thor, Lord of the Aesir (3500/2800) [1 Tuner + 2 or more Non Tuner Monsters]

Negate the special abilities of 1 monster on the field and use them for this card. When this card is destroyed in battle or by card effect immediately special summon it from your graveyard in the end phase of your turn. When this card is special summoned inflict 800 pts of damage to your opponent.

So their anime counterparts are all Divine Beast the same as the Egyptian Gods, like the Egyptian Gods they're nigh invincible by all means that can lockdown spell & traps that target them, negate special abilities and if you destroy them they'll just immediately be revived and either knock off 800LP or put free cards in your hand.

Odin's Eye (Trap)

Negate the special abilities of all Divine Beast on the field and either look at your opponents hand or the cards they have face down on the field (this effect CAN'T be negated).

Gjllarhorn (Trap)
Gjallarhorn-TF06-JP-VG.png

This card can only be activated from your graveyard. When a Divine Beast Type monster is being special summoned from your graveyard their summoning can't be negated and destroy all magic/traps that target them. At the end phase of your turn place a Gjallerhorn counter on this card. After 3 Turns have passed since this card was activated banish all Divine Beast monsters on your side of the field and inflict damage equal to their combined ATK to your opponent.
