Whilst I've stopped caring much about the OP Manga/Anime, I'd be sure to get this game. Pirate Warriors 3 was one of the best of Koei's Dynasty Warriors style games, so I expect PW4 to be pretty good as long as its equivalent to that game's Dream Log mode is just as expansive.

Yeah but it's pretty much Koei spitting out Dynasty Warriors, they just switch to anime right?

A series of hack n' slash games based on the Chinese epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The company who created them, Koei, started using the formula of that series' gameplay for anime/manga as with this One Piece: Pirate Warriors series, as well as the two Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage games and Berserk and the Band of the Hawk.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. OP is a series that lends itself well to the Musou style of gameplay, making the task of creating more instalments a good decision for both the company and fans.

I think this would be great for other anime/manga series too.

Why move this from the games section, it's a video game regardless of the title.

It's still something that would warrant more discussion within the OP sub-forum, with it being far more likely to be swallowed up into obscurity in the more varied video game sub-section.

The same would happen in the One Piece anime/manga section too, but at least in the game section it's a game that'll be found in the gaming section.

Maybe a linking to the One Piece anime/manga section?

People who go to the One-Piece section care more about One-Piece so that counts the video-game as-well.

Ordered the game yesterday, so I'll see what it's like when it comes sometime between the 1st-4th April.

So, I've played a fair bit of the game over the past 3-4 days and have just completed the main story as well as a fair bit of the Treasure Log mode (up to New World rank now) so I've got a good grasp of its quality overall. The story isn't much of a drawing point with it only containing a few major arcs and having a non-canon ending, but that's to be expected when the other choice was having it be a long slog to get through like Pirate Warriors 3. That said, I would have preferred it if the game just went the route of Pirate Warriors 2 by having a completely original non-canon story if it was going to half-ass it anyway.

For the actual gameplay, it's probably the best out of the PW series when it comes to combat. The level up system has much to be desired compared to 3 though as it goes for a more limited skill tree route rather than typical levelling up that requires certain coins to max out some characters. The roster is also fairly limited as it took out some characters for the sake of adding more recent ones that show it catering more towards recent popularity rather than story impact. For instance, Enel, Moria, Kuma, Garp, etc. don't make the cut (despite the latter 2 still being NPCs) yet Carrot and the Vinsmoke Family apparently have a great enough move pool to make it in as playable? Another give and take is to the usefulness of certain characters. Ace and Marco got a good buff, yet Whitebeard and Fujitora got nerfed quite a bit. Another problem is with certain displays. Unlike the previous game, you can't check the rewards for increasing the crew levels of characters from the gallery and instead have to memorise what bonuses you get for certain characters, which is annoying if trying to break a character's level limit. For instance, I'm trying to max out Luffy, yet don't know who's bonus gives you the Devil Fruit coin.

Still, it is quite a fun game to play, though a very flawed one.

Nope. Don't think there's been a single OP game that has movie characters as playable (though I think Shiki appeared as a support character in one of the DS games).

It is the first game to have all the Yonko as playable at least, though I have heard they've nerfed Shanks compared to how he was in PW3. Have yet to see if that's so, since I only recently unlocked him.

They just lost $90 then. I would have gotten the game if I could one shot everyone with Bullet.
