I'd merge it with the previous thread, though finding it seems to be troublesome. That said, this will be the main thread for the topic from now on, so try to keep all similar discussions to this thread.
Like most in this thread, I echo that Hunter X Hunter is the superior series. Its plot has more variety in scenarios, deeper theme exploration, one of the most intricate power systems in anime/manga which is consistent more often than not with its rules (Contracts, Greed Island Cards and Nanika's Wishes being the only problematic areas) and some excellent character writing that acts as a good deconstruction of many parts of the Shonen demographic.
Meanwhile, the creativity that goes into the locations of One Piece's world cannot be said of the repetitive structure of most of its arcs, nor the same messages being parroted throughout them with scarcely much individuality to their themes. Its power system started off as very solid and creative with how many Devil Fruits could hard-counter others and make up for gaps in power (eg. Luffy VS Enel), though Haki negating a lot of this caused the power system to become very stale once the New World Saga began, and it was already starting to slip as early as Enies Lobby due to the Straw Hats having seemingly infinite stamina due to plot armour anyway. That's not to say HxH doesn't have its own cases of plot armouring, but the examples in OP are far more numerous and apparent. The character writing is also a weak part of One Piece, with the more interesting characters either not having as much time dedicated to them or becoming static and very one-note after their initial role and arc in the plot has concluded.
Even taking into account this thread has more to do with a subjective take, the more objective aspects of comparison have influenced my feelings on the matter enough that such wouldn't make much difference in my view on the topic, not to mention the annoyance of putting up with slow-paced arcs in weekly chapters and the repetition of gags beyond their necessity don't do Post-Timeskip OP any favours in winning me over.
Fullmetal Alchemist and Ashita no Joe are far better Shonen than either though, with Pre-Timeskip Hokuto no Ken as well as Rurouni Kenshin being arguably better than HxH too.

Not that I don't hate the current boat arc in Hunter, but that still only makes for one terrible arc and a couple other bad arcs as opposed to over 30 volumes of asstrash.
Boat Arc's still better than the Asspull Election Arc tho'.
