I find it odd that Roshi's power regressed so much since the era of Piccolo. At the start of the series, Roshi was even weaker than his 21st Budokai self, and we know that he is exponentially outclassed by his prime self. Piccolo Daimao, despite being sealed in a rice cooker for centuries was not implied to have lost as much power. I'm not sure how to make sense of that.

Roshi obviously expended too much of that energy with hardcore fapping :troll

Seriously though, Namekian biology vs Earthling biology may be a factor here. It's also worth noting that being trapped in a bottle leaves Piccolo with little to do, compared to Roshi training with dedication for 50 years to master the Kamehameha, having what's implied to be an extremely close fight with Gohan and possibly being afflicted by many of the ailments natural to humans (seeing as how the 21st TB training showed he could still fall ill to food poisoning).

Who said it regressed much? I think that, by the 22nd TB, he had got back most of his youth power, unless you count DBS.

Roshi, for one. It's made overly evident that Roshi at the start of the series is nowhere near his prime, to the point the decrease in power from that time is even greater than what Daimao is suggested to have lost.

Yeah I think biology is the most likely answer. Looking back, a Namek elder who appeared to be older than Piccolo Daimao was still capable of one shotting one of Freeza's soldiers, so it must be that their power doesn't regress as drastically with age.

To add to Daimao being stuck inside a jar, it could be speculated on he may have meditated to reduce his power less more. We see as early as the Saiyan Arc that meditation is in Piccolo's training regime, so either he picked it up from venturing around Earth or it was a skill Daimao was also acquainted with for Ki control.

Chapter: 144, P9.2-3
Pilaf: “Um, hey…So if he regains his youth, he’ll be even more amazing…?”
Piano: “Naturally. So much so that there’ll be no comparison [to how he is now].”

Chapter: 147, P12.1
Context: wishing to Shenlong
Piccolo: “Restore my youth! [Restore me] to that time when I was most overflowing with power!”

Piccolo Daimao certainly got a lot stronger when restored to his youth, that much is undeniable. However, the jump in tiers seems pretty small compared to the gap between Roshi at the start of the series and his 22nd TB/Prime selves.

Maybe the size of Piccolo’s power up is bigger than we think :giraffe

They are correct from their wrong perspective :pyro

Also don’t forget we have no numbers on how strong 21st Roshi was. How can you know 21st Roshi wasn’t on the 120s already? :wat

One of the guidebooks (a pamphlet for DBZ Movie 3 iirc) cites Bacterian at 110, so...:troll2

But they worked on the series so they would know better than anyone else. Bacterian was clearly suppressing at the 21st and must have been paid off by Roshi.

But the same source places the God that is Wild West Giran at only 100. Absolute heresy. :CC

Hold on, this whole operation was your idea.

I mean, you couldn’t care less for supplementary sources’ output in the series, so the idea of Piccolo Daimao having grown so weak isn’t out of hand.
