Here's a very random question I have that came up while watching the Piccolo-Daimao saga last night. It involves a random episode, and I'm sorry I don't have the exact episode number, but I think I can describe it enough to set the landscape.

In this episode, Tenshinhand, Chouzu and Roshi are searching for a Dragon Ball. This is happening while Goku is simultaniously confronting Piccolo for the first time, just for reference. Anyway, thee three are flying around in a Capsule Corp aircraft, and they are attacked by a flock of crows. Chouzu kills them with psychic powers and they then venture inside a cave.

So in this cave, they find a Dragon Ball, along with a thousand more of these crows. They birds attack, while the group flees the cave. Here's where my question comes in, as the following series of events have me baffles as to what exactly happened.

-Tenshinhan and Chouzu make it to the aircraft.

-Roshi lags behind, while the crows swarm around him.

-Chouzu, from the aircraft, yells "Here, take this!" and throws his cap at Roshi.

-The cap lands on Roshi's head. The birds don't stop.

-Literally two seconds later, Roshi jumps into the craft and they take off.

??????????????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????

Wft happened here? What was the point of Chouzu throwing his cap to Roshi? I expected something to happend, but Roshi just gets in the plane and they leave. Was this even in the magna? I'm betting not because it seems like filler-tier bullshit. This was the most pointless insert from :toei that I've ever seen. It can't be a joke because there was no payoff. Someone please help me out because I feel like David Lynch broke into the studio and added this scene.

It was indeed filler.

The point of Roshi being given the cap was to stop attracting the crows to his shiny bald head, which would've hindered their takeoff a bit if they were still swarming him.

That makes sense, I just don't think it was executed very well. The hat lands on his head and Roshi immediately enters the aircraft. I was expecting something to happen. A simply three second shot of the birds flying away would have helped out here.
