Manga:

- Chikan Otoko, 21 chapter story from the same artist as Onanie Master Kurosawa (Onanie is probably the better of the two though). Text-heavy, but funny and realistic despite the ridiculousness of the scenario and good character development. Maybe a bit slow.
- Solanin, 28 chapter drama/slice of life. Down to earth and relatable for young adults trying to find their footing in life.
- Fire Punch, it's 83 chapters and I've only read one but you should read it and tell me what you think so I can continue it or not.
- Bokurano, 66 chapters, apparently it's like Evangelion.

Anime:

- Baccano, 13 episodes, it is good and cool. Give it at least two episodes if the first doesn't hook you.
- Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan, the MAL page says 120 episodes but they're shorts so it's really equivalent to 24 episodes and some of the websites that have it just put it up as 24 episodes. Has a second season too. Anyway, it's a comedy and it's funny.
- Cowboy Bebop, I'm pretty sure you've seen this actually? but it's not on your list so just throwin it out there. Tbh I don't care much for the episodicness personally but it's stylistically cool and the characters have an air of mystique about them that's interesting.

Came in good. I'll read Solanin and Fire Punch first.

I've seen a few eps of Saiki and it seemed worth watching. Baccano I think I saw an ep of in like 2013 (or maybe that was Duradurarara) but stopped because I was just jumping around different series too much a the time.
Actually never seen Bebop, because the lack of a continuous was a barrier for me (same as Champloo), but it's one I'll probs check out eventually. It was actually on a major TV network's streaming service here so I was gonna watch it, but it started with 2 minutes of ads (showing me a stretchy slice of pizza) so I quit immediately.

Might watch it after The Promised Neverland then.

Kyo you read quite a bit of dorohedoro? Do you like it?

Yeah I like Dorohedoro. It's just one of many series I was reading/watching around that time that I had to put off for one reason or another, and I have a bad habit of leaving stuff unfinished if I can't get through it in one go. I'll get back to it soon.

Anime

Area 88 (80s OVA series, not the 00s TV series) - A good war drama that shows how war can change a person, with it being one of the rare examples of an open ending elevating the work.

Planetes - A slice of life series done right with it providing a unique setting that balances between the awe of space and the banality of office work with well fleshed out characters.

Princess Tutu - Despite its name and girly appearance, that's mainly a deception. After a certain point, it becomes apparent that it's a deconstruction of the Mahou Shoujo sub-genre and features its cast both figuratively and literally going from archetypes to complete characters as well as some of the most well utilised 4th wall breaks in anime. Whilst MAL says it's 38 episodes, it actually fits your criteria as those after episode 13 with the exception of the finale were originally aired as 12 minute episodes, making it more accurate to say it's 26 episodes.

Takarajima - A retelling of the classic novel Treasure Island. Whether you've read and like the novel or are only vaguely familiar with it, the series has its merit in watching it primarily due to its unique take on John Silver by adding some more to his character than the original novel.

Zegapain - Essentially The Matrix with mechas and a more consistent script. It can be slow at times with how much time it provides to a high school setting of all things, but if you've seen The Matrix and like its themes, then you'll probably like Zegapain.

Mobile Suit Gundam - The original series doesn't really meet your requirements due to being 43 episodes. However, the movie trilogy provides a good way of being introduced to the franchise and is actually treat as canon to later instalments and spinoffs instead of the original tv series, so these three films (Mobile Suit Gundam I, II: Soldiers of Sorrow and III: Encounters in Space) should make a good introduction into the long running war drama in space if wanting to see if it's your kind of thing. If not feeling like continuing the franchise further from the movie trilogy, I'd at least recommend watching the spinoff 0080: War in the Pocket after you finish them.

Lol just came across this from when I last tried reading Solanin two years ago: http://www.dbzeta.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3217&p=80868

I'm currently getting through Fire Punch. Anime-wise I'll do Baccano and then something from CC's list.

edit: just realised 2016 was 4 years ago and not 2 years ago, fuck
