Special Characteristics: A technique that instantly amplifies the ki inside one’s body, multiplying all that person’s abilities, including power, speed, defense, etc. Since it makes one capable of utilizing battle power many times their own ability, it is extraordinarily effective during battles with formidable opponents. However, because it is impossible to multiply excessively far beyond one’s abilities, experimenting with an unreasonably high Kaio-Ken might destroy one’s own body. When the user’s battle power is 8,000, their limit is x2, and when they are at 3 million the limit is x10. However, since real battles are harsh, Goku often had to use Kaio-Ken above those limits. The Kaio-Ken’s designer is the North Kaio, but Goku was the first person to be able to master it. (Daizenshuu 2, p.212/ Daizenshuu 4, p.113)

This entry from the Daizenshuu 7 implies there's a minimum BP to be able to use Kaioken. Goku's body was wrecked by Kaioke x3 because of his BP not being high enough, same with the Kaioken x10 on Namek.

Given how Tenshinhan and co. never master the Kaioken at all, does this imply Tenshinhan is << Saiyan Arc Goku?

Or Kaio just never bothered teaching them it? He didn't teach them the Genkidama either, and that has nothing to do with battle power.

I think they did different training. Even Tenshinhan admitted he needed to take the general gist of the training and do his own thing because he couldn't replicate Goku's success.

Goku was just said to be gifted, so it's that on-top of having a gift. High battle-power alone doesn't seem to cut it.

For the reasons already mentioned about nobody but Goku being taught the Genki-Dama and Ten even saying he couldn't just follow Goku's training, it's more likely he just didn't learn the Kaioken.
That, and you'd be hard pressed trying to limit post-Kaio Tenshithands to below 8k when Piccolo was implied to have already reached around 300k after 6 days, or at the very least far above 42k.

The highest proven PL humans ever showed was Krillin's 25k or so power against Fake Goku.
I'm not against regarding that power as humans' plateau. It makes way more sense, considering
that the most gifted unfused Namek, with all his potential released, had a PL of 42k and humans
are logically weaker than Nameks.

I'm not against regarding that power as humans' plateau. It makes way more sense, considering
that the most gifted unfused Namek, with all his potential released, had a PL of 42k and humans
are logically weaker than Nameks.

Kuririn was considered of use against one stronger than 530k, so placing that as a human's peak isn't going to work, especially when three of the humans still bothered showing up to face a foe they could do absolutely nothing against four years later.
By comparison, Nail could do absolutely nothing of worth against Freeza and having help certainly wouldn't change that, let alone being of use against a far superior duo of enemies.

But seriously, Vegeta only acknowledged Kuririn's power was rising. He even makes a point to say Gohan's power is skyrocketing.
