Considering how M5 implies Base Goku > Freeza, Cooler stomps. He casually flew trought a K20 Kamehameha.

I'd say Trunks win a hand to hand fight. While Cooler says Goku could perform nice enough to beat Freeza in base form, he repeats it to him the same when he turns SSJ.

However, Trunks would probably get killed if Cooler use his Supernova

He might not. Trunks doesn't really let mofos do that kind of thing. He takes care of business as fast as possible.

Goku was still an untrained Super Saiyan, but he was stronger than he was since returning from Namek. I don't see Trunks looking as terrible as Cooler did fighting the same Goku. If anything, I could see them around the same level. Cooler is the odd man out without something like a Supernova.

I just can't make sense of Coola's lines about defeating Freeza without using hax as the explanation.

Goku got jacked up pretty bad by Cooler's eye laser. I know it was to save Gohan, but that amount of damage leads me to believe Cooler was way above him right there. Whatever level Cooler was at had to have been comfortably below Freeza before transforming. I know a lot of people take "I can see how you defeated my brother" to mean Base Goku>100% Freeza, but I personally don't. Goku's reaction to Cooler being stronger than Freeza seemed to be a big deal. If he was already above Freeza without using Super Saiyan, the acknowledgement seems a lot more dry to me.
