Super Boo vs base Gotenks

Piccolo and Trunks believed Gotenks in his normal state could give Super Boo a fight. But Super Boo just tanked all of their attacks and Piccolo facepalmed himself. Which explanation would you give to that scene? Both Piccolo and Gotenks were wrong, Super Boo instantly powered up? Maybe they didn't sense Super Boo's chi accurately?

The "When it comes to Majin Boo’s strength, it’s like a lie…" line seems like the best explanation.

Even if they couldn't sense Buu properly, they could still sense SSJ Gotenks pre properly.
So, for them to think Base post could succeed where SSJ pre couldn't proves that
Base post>SSJ pre.

I don't think Gotenks was planning on winning in his base form, not even as a Super Saiyan really. Remember when Trunks was telling Goten how they would wait until the end to use Super Saiyan 3 and say they didn't have a chance. There'd be no reason for Trunks to say that if he thought they'd win early on. As for Piccolo saying Gotenks might have a chance, I don't hold any value to it seeing moments later he says "or maybe not." He was also definitely underestimating Buu.
