Yeah that's after his arm was smashed off, right? (Been a while since I've seen). I mean to say he was taking on Vegeta easily, so even if he was close to Vegeta before the repair, that would put Cooler still way above Debut Trunks.

Yeah, he was mainly fighting Goku before and got defeated fast once he transformed. Though the fight did seem even and Goku put everything he had in that punch at the end to go through Cooler, it could just be :toei :toei :toei and trying to build-up suspense even when it makes no sense.
