Do you like it? In the midst of rereading it, I'd say it's one of my favourite arcs. I really like how there is more emphasis on death when Piccolo died, as for a short time nobody knew if they could ever revive the fallen Z-fighters. Nappa was also cool in action, cutting Tenshinhan's arm off cold was a feat not seen before. The villains were just badass.

I'd say this is part of the Freeza Saga, but I can see why others'd think of this as its own saga.

Freeza has literally nothing to do with the so-called Saiyan arc. It's all about the Saiyans, which is why that separation is appropriate.

I do like this arc. Both in the anime and sexy full color manga. It's like "OMG Raditz is over 1,000 holy shit!"

Those days are long gone. :troll2 :cry

I think as a whole story that has something to do with it. They go to Namek because of what happened in the Saiyan Saga and all the Saiyans from the Saiyan Saga were working for the even bigger evil (Freeza).

That doesn't make it the same arc, it's merely one arc leading into another. The Freeza arc leaded into the Cell arc, and the Cell arc leaded into the Boo arc, it doesn't mean they're all one arc.

At least that's how I see it.

To me it does, but like I said this is one case where I can see both sides.

To me there are 3 Sagas in DragonBall Z: Freeza Saga, Cell Saga & Boo Saga.

Fair enough. I don't understand your stance here but I can respect it.

I can see both sides, though I usually refer to pre-Namek as the "Saiyan saga" just for clarification purposes.

True. Freeza does return at the beginning of the Cell Saga to take revenge but it's done more in a way to show how the last villain is fodder now. I think the story just continues in one big story from the beginning of DragonBall Z to the beginning of the Cell Saga (as a Saga).

The setup is a bit too linear, with Raditz just showing up to set up for Goku training and coming back to fight Nappa and Vegeta and Vegeta stepping in when his lackey fails to do the job. It still contained some exciting battles though, and actually leads into the next arc very smoothly even if the next arc is superior in every way except for the pacing (Freeza still fights Goku for a volume and a half lol).

As for the debate of the Saiyan arc being part of the Freeza arc, I'd say it's a fair viewpoint since Vegeta was ultimately only one of Freeza's executives, and the loss of Piccolo leads directly into the Dragon Ball hunting on Namek. But the atmosphere is very different due to the focus of the Freeza arc being to gather the Dragon Balls, as well as the Super Saiyan legend being a focal point whereas it was just a random term Nappa coined for halflings during Saiyan.

At least most of us arent retarded like Funi was with calling every little thing an arc.

Ginyu Force arc
Cell Games arc
Babidi arc
Etc...

Wtf?! Let's have a Pui Pui arc while we're at it!

Their most retarded distinction was naming parts of the Cell arc "Imperfect Cell saga" and "Perfect Cell saga." The most hilarious part of it all being that Cell wasn't even perfected until halfway through the latter :cena :cena

I do separate Freeza and Androids arcs (I don't even really call it Cell arc at any point) but the way I see it, Freeza introduced the cyborgs and androids by becoming one himself, but yes, fodder through somehow inferior technology to what Gero had.

Like Mystic said one arc leading to another.

It's not without it's faults. Raditz was a waste of goku's brother. Any random Saiyan would have done fine. Vegeta being goku's brother would have been a better use.

Aside from the fight between goku and vegeta, there really aren't any great fights in this arc either.
