He remembered some minor but nice traits in moments of the story before, like:
---> Yamcha being the only one to react when Grandpa Gohan caught on Goku's tail weakness, adding that he, Puar and Chi-Chi should be the only ones to note that.
---> Tenshinhan and Yamcha reacted in a very extravagant way towards Freeza's chi, while the others seemed more like they expected that, calling back to them not being on Namek at the time.
---> Kuririn was specifically the one to pinpoint Cell's technique being the same as Freeza's, going back to what Freeza used on them and Kuririn being one of the few ones to witness that
----> The announcer remembered Piccolo destroyed the arena and he had just Goku and Kuririn reacting to the Budokai announcer in the Boo saga, the only ones from the world tournament to be there, and Piccolo.
All nice details that couldn't be expected from somone who forgets things within chapters span. So it's more likely he just ignores and writes off or up details as he sees fit, which goes in line with one of his interviews.
