It ultimately comes down to skill, in which case I'd believe Piccolo's vaster array of techniques would give him the win.

Didn't Piccolo challenge Raditz as well when knowing he was greatly outclassed though?

He didn't keep his mouth shut, he is still a proud warrior. I don't think he is just gonna lie there and let Vegeta shit talk him. He didn't keep his cool like he did in the instances he was really superior, e.g when Vegeta provoked him when Piccolo had merged with Nail. The fact that he seemed visibly annoyed there can even be interpreted as his pride being hurt by being provoked by someone he knows is his superior imo.

It may imply they are at least somewhat close, as it's doubtful Goku would bother mentioning Piccolo if he were that below Vegeta. If the gap remained the same, I think he'd have just mentioned Vegeta, considering how well behind Piccolo was back then. I am not sure though, but I think it implies Piccolo is at least of some relevance to Vegeta's power, with this latter being still the superior due to nothing definitive implying the status quo has changed, with the implications (I am not so sure how to interpret Piccolo challenging Vegeta tbh) at most pointing out at the gap shrinking down.GreatSaiyaman123 said:ahill1 said:He said something like "how dare you say that to the demon king, do you know who are you talking to?". He actually said “What was that? You want to try me?”
When you think about it, Piccolo does challenges people who are way beyond his realm of power a lot. I mean, he wanted twice to go after Fat Boo, went to fight Tagoma just after Gohan said Tagoma was about as strong as him and was going to fight 1st form Freeza despite the fact it was obvious he was going to get stomped. Contrary to what Gohan said, Piccolo does challenge people who outstrip him a lot.
Ahill, what do you think about this statement? Do you think it implies Piccolo is close to Vegeta?
Goku: “Well at any rate, who was it who defeated Freeza? That was an incredible ki. Was it Piccolo? Or Vegeta?”
