Vegeta pretty much got rewritten after Namek to have his main character trait be "muh pride" and considering how Super likes to just take a character's main trait and exaggerate it to high hell, it's not really a surprise.

What'd be a real surprise is for Super to actually make Vegeta fight tactically again rather than getting mad and saying "I'M THE PRINCE OF THE SAIYANS!!"
