Vegeta said to Dodoria that he doesn't care whether his entire race was killed... But that being kept a slave and manipulated for all this time is what sets him off. But he then begged for Goku to finish Freeza and that such must be done by a Saiyajin's hand.

So did he care about his race and father being exterminated by Freeza and merely didn't want to show it off to Dodoria?

He didn't like the fact that Freeza talked trash about him as Vegeta was a Saiyan as-well. It's like someone insulting your father, even if you hate your father you'll still be insulted by it because of the intent behind the insult (a low-blow).

I asked this question months ago. :troll

Anyway, while Vegeta doesn't care about his people but he did care his blood, pride and homeplanet that he was destined to rule. Vegeta truly cared about his heritage which is complete opposite what Freeza think about it.

He shot down the idea of reviving Raditz, didn't show remorse for killing Nappa, and tried to destroy Goku/Gohan and co. along with Earth. His Saiyan pride has a lot to do with selfishness. With his speech, he wanted Goku to abandon his sentimentality and fight ruthlessly against Frieza; giving insight into Frieza's cruelty towards the Saiyans was motivation for this. You could argue that he did contain some care for the Saiyans collectively, as Goku suggests it while burying him, but his individual pride is much more prominent.
