Was Piccolo Daimao's plan retarded?

Kami figured it was possible he could've simply died a natural death when the Saiyans came, and the Great Elder later also postulated he could've simply reached the end of his lifespan. He obviously survived for a few more years, but this basically means Piccolo's reign could've been over in less than a decade from Kami just dying of old age. Why didn't he wish for eternal youth for his other half as well?

I never understanded the "natural death" line from Kami. He was live even at the androids' arrival, which happened nearly 5 years after the Saiyans saga.

PD was told by Piano several times that birthing eggs would cause him to die soon (meaning his lifespan was on the verge of running out when he made his wish), so it doesn't take a genius to figure out Kami's wasn't too far from running out either.
