On power (with the suit) it's said he's on par with 80% of Sidious.

No. Anakin had the potential to surpass everyone but never fulfilled that role.

One of the key factors here is midichlorians, those microbs that help attune people to the Force. Anakin had the largest count ever seen. These inhabit every part of our body, and are the main reason why he was so powerful.

When he became Vader, he got one arm and both legs chopped off. Anakin had already lost one arm prior. So basically he lost a good portion of those midichlorians right then and there. Plus massive lung damage. It shows how powerful he truly is that he was still formidable as Vader after that.

Plus, force lightning from Palpatine is a one-shot deal with that suit.

Are all of those facts found within novels? @Southern Gothic

No sir. The concept of midichlorians was introduced in Episode 1. It's a retroactive concept, since it came after the original trilogy, but it is directly from the movies and therefore considered gospel.

As for the Force lightning, Vader's suit gets fried in Episode 6 and he can barely breath after being exposed to it. He even states to Luke that his death is inevitable.

Ah, makes sense. The last time I saw episode I, I was a young kid. I should really re-watch both I and II to refresh my knowledge on them.

And thanks, you can always be counted on for Star Wars knowledge.

There was always a debate on how exactly the Midichlorians worked. Was it purely based on count, or was it more percentage based? Which would change how powerful vader was pre and post suit.

Regardless the massive damage he sustained to his body clearly limited his potential. If he actually realized his full potential and became stronger than Sidious he'd never have needed his son to help overthrow him.

Obi-Wan states that Anakin had a midichlorian count of over 20,000, and he uses the term "count" when describing it. So I always assumed count was accurate.

Also, Sidious says "Darth Vader will become more powerfull than either of us" when talking to Yoda in Episode III. So I agree that Anakin would have surpassed everyone if not for the accident.

''I am more powerful than the Chancellor. I can overthrow him''

But then he got wrecked by Obi-Wan, who Yoda stated could not handle the Emperor.

Mainly due to Obi-Wan's defensive Soresu mastery being the ultimate foil to Anakin's attack oriented style. Not that it matters, since the statement of an arrogant guy high on the Dark Side means less than that of two old masters.

As for the topic, Sidious > Vader is established throughout both the EU and Canon. Though the EU is more blatant on this (such as both Vader and Luke stating Palpatine was likely the strongest Sith Lord in history) there are still statements in the films themselves to back this up as already mentioned. Another key one from the original trilogy is Vader telling Luke that they can destroy the Emperor together, heavily implying Vader can't do so alone

Sidious, according to the tier system, is a 9-10 in terms of dueling skill. Anakin is only an 8 and when tapping into the "darkside/potential" he becomes a 9 .

George Lucas himself states in the episode 3 commentary that Windu straight up beats Sidious in the lightsaber duel, so yeah he's at least on par.

Was just playing it safe, as for yoda I believe in the script it says he disarms sidious not that they show it in the movie, thus him resorting to throwing the chair things at yoda and not having his light saber.

I think fans just want to act like Sidious had this master plan that involved losing right as anakin got there. When in reality he intended to kill Windu just like the rest.

Yup although it was a staight up duel I believe if sidious used the force agasint windu it would be a closer match similar to yoda v sidious, where yoda won the saber battle but sidious used the force to make it a stalemate where then yoda retreats.
