That GameFreak was/is concerned about negative fan feedback, will listen to some of it and cater to the fans more in the next set of games, by doing things like:

A more intricate and interesting region
Less hand holding
A more coherent storyline
Difficulty options
Improved animations
Less Kanto wank; more Pokémon from different regions
DLC that serves as an expansion to a complete game, rather than features we could easily just have in the main game.

I give it 2% :Krillin

2% is being very generous, considering GameFreak's 1 step forward-2 steps back has been a very constant approach from Gen 6 and onward and the profit they're making isn't going to deter their current practises. Only ways in which GameFreak will learn their lesson is if there's either a change in staff or if they make decisions so monumentally bad that they start losing money in merchandising, which would seem impossible for the best-selling media franchise in history.

It's shameful because given everything I've read, it seemed like they really pushed the envelope with BW/B2W2 but due to poor sales never expanded on that and make more changes to the formula.

Apparently their Town RPG game was a flop so hopefully in that will help with the next set. They should probably just dissolve as a company and create a development team of GF guys and Nintendo guys.

It is worth noting that the fans of Gen 5 have dramatically increased since its launch to the point it's now often mentioned in discussions of the best generation, so there may be hopes for GF to make bigger leaps when it comes to new content.

...or they could cave into the demand for Gen 4 remakes, slap a shade of Sinnoh paint of Sw/Sh's poor mechanics and call it a day :troll.

Given that Gen 1 and Gen 2 got remakes in less than or right around ten years, and Gen 3 was just a little over that, it's weird that we don't have 4 remakes yet. Gen 5 is nine years old too.

I'd say it makes sense from a gameplay perspective. Gen 4 hasn't aged anywhere near as much as Gen 1-3's mechanics due to being the first to get the physical-special split right and can still be played on the 3DS, meaning it isn't too difficult to transfer Pokemon over from there to Gen 8 now that Sw/Sh have increased what Pokemon are available. The only reason I'd see for Gen 4 remakes to be necessary beyond the DS games no longer being in production being the ability to use TMs more than once, and Gen 8 already diminished that by changing some former TMs to one-use only TRs.
