I met him at a con in 2013. Really nice guy. Certainly flirty with a lot of the girls but nothing that crossed any lines by non-retard standards. Signed my GT poster and talked with me for a while no charge. Bit of a weird experience overall as it was my first and only anime convention but I can go into details later.
Anyway, he spent the first hour of his appearance talking about being a Christian. I sat and listened out of respect since I was going to ask him to sign stuff for free. Specifically, he talked a lot about how being a Christian doesn't mean you have to hate gay people, or treat them badly. I actually appreciated this, as it was a good message for his much younger audience and a good way to reach them without seeming like a wacko evangelical.
When the accusations came out about him, one of the charges was that he was homophobic and my mind immediately snapped back to that Con. The guy went out of his way to discourage homophobic behavior, especially against Christians. Made me realize a lot of what was being said was bullshit.
I've been following this drama from the beginning (there's threads on Kiwi if you wanna dig). This is basically a Kavannah situation, if I had to sum it up briefly.
