Had Marik revived Lava Golem instead of Ra and attacked Gilford, he'd have won the duel as long as he summoned a new monster the next turn after raping Joey's next monster :eek:dawg :eek:dawg

In that tournament people were obsessed with Ra to the point were they'd rather want to use him instead of winning a different way, even if the other way was easier, just look at Mai she could've won with what she had but she wanted to use Ra instead.

Funny thing is that everyone who summons Ra ends up technically losing in some way:

Odion/Rishid: fake Ra backfires and knocks him out of the tourney.

Mai: Marik rapes her after she goes through the trouble of summoning it :cena

Bakura: Same as above more or less

Marik: Only wins against Joey due to a technicality, loses to Yugi

:facepalm : loses to Yugi :ha :ha

I guess you could argue that Marik was aware he could easily defeat Joey/Jonouchi and chose not to purely to toy with him and display the power of his God Card. After all, he seemed completely confident against Yugi that his deck would be unbeatable for someone who only won his previous match due to a technicality. Only logical reason without assuming Marik's arrogance borders retardation is that he was toying with Jonouchi until the last few turns.

It was risky. Who could guarantee that Marik would draw another monster to attack directly with before Lava Golem's effect drained his LP?

He managed to draw the one card that would conveniently complete his immortal god slime combo (Revival Jam) just the turn after he activated his Metal Reflect Slime card. Plot will always kick in when you're the main antagonist.

Just like how Dartz would have been burnt toast had he not gotten Kyutora so early to stand up against the Dream Team's combo. Antagonists gotta antag somehow.

Even leaving aside plot armour, Marik's deck is pretty Monster Card heavy compared to someone such as say, Kaiba, so the likelihood of him drawing such a card on the next turn was highly probable.

Still, we don't know what Joey would have drawn after Marik revived Lava Golem.

He had little chance of drawing anything that would hard-counter it, considering what we're shown of the hand he did end up getting, and even when he was about to win in their duel, he succumbed to the fatigue of his injuries from the Shadow Game. There's no way he's standing strong when on the losing end a turn earlier.
