Note: obviously it wasn't either, but it might be notable that Goku at least felt it conceivable that Vegeta did it.

Nappa can't defeat Goku.

After his ultimate attack, Vegeta knew he was finished and called him down. Goku thought he had more to give; hence his statement of 'At this rate, it will take forever'.

'Cheh' is the Japanese terminology used to mock someone, it is precisely what Goku said after the two exchanged a few blows.

Nappa cannot defeat Goku in physical combat, he can only defeat Goku if he's able to land his Ultimate Attack somehow; otherwise, it's a major stomp in Goku's favor.

Second: What? This doesn't make a lick of sense. Goku said that he would take all day to beat simply because he thought that he had more to give? No, AT THIS rate(at the level that Nappa was fighting currently) he would take all day to beat.

Third: You can apply the same logic to Vegeta and Piccolo - The only way that they can win is by catching Freeza off guard with an full-powered attack.

Nappa performed his Ultimate Attack and then Goku states that the fight will take all day based on how he tanked his Kamehameha and the end result of their beam struggle, little did he know -as Vegeta did, that it was Nappa's best attack and Nappa had nothing more to give. There is also this:

Saiyans rapidly increase in strength as they fight against strong opponents, so the longer they fought, the more that gap would shrink, and it might even be possible for them to eventually turn the tables.

Which completely fits in line with Goku's fight against Nappa.
