Using the term "canon" loosely here, but basically, which Burdock story do you accept in your own canon?

Father of Goku, but I consider parts of Minus to be canon if I'm being honest.

Unfortunately it would be Minus.

I'd consider Burdock being a brilliant scientist more canon than DB Minus. :manabu2

It's pretty bad, but I can't just write off the author's ideas because I don't like them.

When he shows Burdock in the original manga he seems to be referencing the Burdock from the TV Special, which kind of implies the events of the TV specials are what happened in the original story.

Why :troll would go and make up a new :trash story that contradicts the manga, and even suggests Goku was pure-hearted because his parents were, rather than him just hitting his head is beyond me. I'd argue that Episode of Burdock was even better than Minus.

Episode of Bardock is worse than the Super 17 arc though.

Minus is more tolerable than Episode of Bardock due to the fact that it takes 3 minutes to read vs. 20 minutes of SS Bardock nonsense.

Both are just really bad fan service; EoB for making Burdock the original Super Saiyan and Chilled, and Minus for introducing Goku's mother and adding a meaningless backstory with cameos of Vegeta and Raditz. I'd consider EoB better for at least actually having a story.

For some reason all this Bardock talk made me remember the time Curtis (when he was a mod on F) called me elitist because I asked who Fasha was. I never saw the Bardock Special dubbed.

I could see why, since that seems like a snide way of saying "her name is Selypa you noob" from a sub-purist. I get that it was just a misunderstanding though.

I mean, I might say that now. Changing her name completely is pretty lame. What's the point? Do they not get the pun? Funi is really odd when it comes to translations.

If talking about which the current canon where even Super can be taken into account, I guess I'm forced to pick Minus.

In terms of which one fits into the pre-Super canon and is overall the best portrayal, then the TV Special for sure since it's far more of a complete story and a welcome difference from the typical story told in DB.

The TV-Special.

For the wishy-washy world of DragonBall Super, I guess DragonBall Minus fits.

Minus would be cool, but AT probs fucked it up by having Goku be 3.

SSJ Burdock is bullshit what if stuff, which is fine but not canon.

Burdock being the one to confront Freeza was fucking garbage anyway. Almost as bad as Naruto being descended from a Hokage.

Not at all. It's not as though he accomplished anything against Freeza in terms of battle or legacy (Freeza only vaguely remembers him years later) and whilst him being a low class with a 10k battle power was pushing it, the TV Special never over-glorified him as some godlike prodigy or figure of great importance like in most Shonen to follow.
