Which do you consider to be more important?

What do you consider to be more important in Manga, and Anime, the visual element or the written element. Personally I consider both of them important, if you have good animation and shit writing (SAO) it will still be a terrible show, and if you have garbage animation and a good story it's still going to be a shit show.

I personally think that a great show is one that manages to strike a balance.

Writing >>> Art >>> Animation imo. Style shouldn't be much of a factor in rating a series' worth compared to substance, considering the latter tends to be quite rare by comparison in the medium.
There can be exceptions depending on the genre of the series. For instance, if it's a typical rule of cool series then the art or animation will likely take precedence as the series would likely be intended to just be the equivalent of an entertaining B-Movie you're not meant to take too seriously, though that doesn't mean I'll give it a top tier score just for that.

Art is the bread and butter of a manga or comic, so it does take some precedent.

It's not worth my time if it's terribly written.
