I'd leave most of part 1 the same other than Kuririn travelling with Goku as part of a training journey in the RRA Arc so that most of that arc isn't just Goku soloing the army. Once Taopaipai is introduced, one change I'd have is that Kuririn hides until Goku is defeated and takes the Dragon Ball so that neither Upa or Goku is targeted. Getting to a nearby village, he'd inform Kame House on the situation with the main cast banding together to take on the RRA far earlier and thus allow them to fight the army and each have their own moment in the spotlight. Taopaipai would also be called back to defend the base due to Roshi overwhelming most of the troops and Goku would hurry there once his training was complete, allowing for Goku VS Taopaipai to act as the finale. Gero would appear to reconstruct Tao after the battle was over, thereby not making his Cyborg return an asspull. Gero would also have a far more prominent role from the start, sending many of his prototype creations to assassinate Goku, thus making his training gains for the 22nd TB seem more believable. The 22nd TB would remain the same, other than that Man-Wolf would be replaced with a mysterious cyborg who'd defeat Jackie Chun, with the matchups being slightly altered so that this opponent faces and defeats Kuririn in the final and Goku defeats Tenshinhan, thus providing Ten a grudge and not making his change into a good guy rushed. In the finals, Goku would be beaten by the cyborg who reveals himself to be Taopaipai, who upon his victory would send out a signal to have the Mazoku invade the stadium. In this version, I'd have Gero be the one to influence Pilaf into releasing Daimao, thus having Taopaipai act under Daimao's command. Instead of killing off Kuririn, I'd simply get rid of expendable characters such as Lunch and the Budokai jobbers. Tenshinhan seeing the evil of the Mazoku would make his change to the side of the heroes far more believable, with him killing Taopaipai with a Kikoho before escaping with them, though Chaozu would be killed by a Mazoku like Drum for treason before he could flee. Goku would face Piccolo once he'd healed and get stomped, but rather than being given the deus ex machina that was the Choshinsui, he and the other fighters would be immediately sent to train with Kami for 3 years. Piccolo would also gain his youth without resistance other than Roshi's failed Mafuba and destroy Shenron, with those who died being incapable of being wished back due to keeping the Dragon Balls limited to the resurrection needing to occur within 2 years' time, thus not making them such blatant plot armour.
The 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai would be held 3 years later, with the world becoming a post-apocalyptic one in which Daimao decides to hold the tournament to route out anyone who dare oppose him and the no-killing rule being completely removed, thus giving it more stakes and presenting a chance for Ten to put his assassination skills to work. The matchups would be virtually the same, other than Tao being replaced with Drum who'd kill Tenshinhan after a tough match only to be killed by unweighted Galu in the next match, thus offering some casualty and not giving the semi-finals just a lesser Goku VS Ten fight than what we got at the 22nd. The setting would also help make Chichi's implied power a lot more believable. The fight between Goku and Daimao would go very similarly to the 23rd TB final, though the climax would be Goku propelling himself through Daimao's stomach like the King Castle match. He'd then spit out Piccolo who'd train to surpass Goku. Kami then restores the Dragon Balls and Tenshinhan, along with the more recent victims, is wished back to life.
Moving onto Z, I'd leave the Saiyan Arc very much the same, other than that the humans would train using the Rosat, with the act of withholding it's existence seeming more believable if saying that Goku or Kami couldn't last long in there and the humans push through due to their resolve, though I'd keep it's limitation to one use per person and that regardless if they spent the whole year in there, they can't use it again after leaving. Also Chaozu is permanently dead so he can be a jobber one more time.
The Freeza Arc is where I'd make far more drastic changes. I'd keep Vegeta's rants of being the strongest in the Universe by keeping Freeza and his henchmen at a lower battle power than Vegeta, but with far more haxed abilities to keep stronger foes in check, such as Freeza perhaps having inescapable telekinesis and some telepathy. This would result in a lot more field tactics and strategy being used to take down opponents than in canon. Goku's training gains would still be the same, with him stomping the Ginyu Tokusentai, with Ginyu escaping, before they could do anything to him and instead facing Freeza immediately. It's here Freeza would reveal the ability to transform, though I'd make his true form the only transformation and it's increase in power and speed coming at the cost of nerfing his telekinesis. The wishes would be made just as in the series with Freeza heading to his ship before he could kill Goku when guessing of their plan. Nail wouldn't face Freeza and instead take Goku directly to Saichoro to unlock his potential, thus making his Zenkai and Super Saiyan transformation far less of an asspull. Gohan, Kuririn, Piccolo and Vegeta would face Freeza to no avail, Dende and Vegeta die as in canon and things go similarly to canon up until SSJ Goku VS Freeza. Here, Goku wouldn't rant about being a Super Saiyan out of character and would also kill Freeza. However, Ginyu would appear to steal his body and Gohan would return to help his father as in anime filler. Ginyu would succeeed and kill Goku due to not ignoring this obvious point, thus causing Gohan to become a Super Saiyan. I'd also make it so that there can only be one Super Saiyan at a time, thus we don't have SSJ Ginyu, especially when he wouldn't know how to use Goku's body as it is. Everyone is wished back to Earth immediately after Gohan kills Ginyu, but even though Kuririn can be wished back, Goku's body can't be restored due to being possessed by someone by Ginyu, who's power is beyond Kami or Enma's. Thus, we have a bittersweet ending and Goku being removed from the plot, thus having the torch passed to Gohan and the storyline of the original ending at the Freeza Arc.
After this, I'd only have one more story arc to conclude the series and the passing of the torch of protagonist to Gohan. King Cold would arrive on Earth and, at the same time, Gero would've made himself an Artificial Human. Though #16, #17, #18 would still appear, they'd be far weaker than in canon due to it being illogical for them to be anywhere close to a Super Saiyan from just Saiyan Arc data, especially when Gero didn't expect Galu to make any noticeable gains after that. Their power would be not much higher than Saiyan Arc Vegeta, thus resulting in them being a fair challenge for the humans who'd max out their potential around this level. Gero would drain most of SSJ Gohan's Ki when he was about to fight Cold and whilst not taking all of it, Gohan would still need to retreat. Gero would also have far more of a forceful command over his creations, destroying #17 for his resistance and attempting to destroy #18 until Kuririn saves her with a surprise attack, thus opening up that relationship.
#19 would still appear, though be killed by Cold with Gero testing Cold's strength before forming an alliance with him, offering his scientific expertise to aid Cold's technology. With the desperate situation, Piccolo and Kami would fuse to help combat Cold and Gero, who with Gohan's Ki, was now rivalling Cold's power. Thus, the climax of the arc would be Gohan VS Cold and Piccolo VS Gero, the latter made far more meaningful by Gero having been the one to initially unleash Piccolo upon this age, with the renewed Namekian now ending his evil schemes with such irony. That is, until Gero steals a dying Cold's Ki to overpower Gohan, though Piccolo's assistance would be too much for him and Gero would finally be put down for good. We basically get the Cell Arc but with Gohan fully taking on the role as hero, no contradictive time travel and not having the walking plot device and mish-mash of other character traits that is Shello. We also don't have to put up with the Boo Arc since I'd end things here.

Honestly been thinking about how I'd rewrite the manga, particularly the Freeza Arc, for a while, so I've had some prep time I guess.GreatSaiyaman123 said:Is that your college essay, CC? I'm only on the 23rd part, but your rewrites literally put mines to shame
Not beyond the extensive scenario in the "What If Bulma Married Goku" thread, which was more making the best out of what the canon already provided.Keedounan said:Just...wow. I knew you'd have good ideas, but I didn't expect THAT. Did you write any fanfiction ?

I guess the main reason I haven't is because I'd prefer to write my own stories rather than riding on the coattails of an already existing one. Leaves me with far less limitations on my creativity.

Just...wow. I knew you'd have good ideas, but I didn't expect THAT. Did you write any fanfiction ?

Thank you, but I'm talking about the manga here. So, care to come up with a serious answer ?

Seriously, how the fuck Goku saves the world a shit ton of times and nobody knows who he is?
