Who is best duelist ?

Who, in terms of skills alone, is actually the best duelist ? Skills alone means...

* No cheating (obviously).
* No outside influence, which includes magic, shadow games, millenium items, Yugi/Atem body swap shenanigans, "I can draw exactly the card I need for this situation", and similar BS.
* And of course, since some duelists have naturally broken decks, one should not only take into account how good they are with their own decks, but also how good they would be if they played with a subpar, average or money capped deck.

Plot armor isn't a skill. It's an outside influence: Yugi wins most of the time because the plot called for it.

Not trying to come off as a stuck-up jerk, but I've made it clear from the start that in this thread, "heart of cards" isn't considered a skill.

Of course in the series, they'd consider it a skill: Yugi needs to be the "best", he is the protagonist. But again, plot armor isn't the point of this thread. Otherwise, I'd just go with protagonists > all and call it a day.

It has to be Kaiba by virtue of being equal to Atem by his own merits and not destiny or Millennium Items.

You could probably also make the argument for Yugi himself since he defeated Atem and Kaiba (in the anime, not the manga) admitted Yugi truly was the best. Atem had since been revealed to be able to call any card when he needed it, plus he had all three God Cards and the Magician cards, and Yugi still overcame him on his own.

Most likely Kaiba since he has both good creativity in his decks (eg. his virus strategy), doesn't remain arrogant in his use of just one card despite his overuse of Blue Eyes (eg. sacrificing his God Card to beat Ishizu) and doesn't just rely on plot armour through Millennium Items and Heart of the Cards like a lot of those treat as the top duellists.

Dartz is also a contender due to how absolutely broken his deck is, with the only thing that can combat his Infinite ATK monster being an asspull beyond infinity.
