Why all the hype at Doffy's awakening?

Why all the hype towards Doffy's awakening? It seemed pretty common, really, with even Pica displaying more than once similar feats with his stones:

There was really no reason for Luffy to be impressed at all considering Pica's feats are as impressive as Doffy's.

Aren't awakenings just a thing any high-powered fruit user can do? It's basically just changing your surroundings to correlate w/your fruit.
I'm pretty I remember Diamante, Crocodile, Kuzan, and Sakazuki doing stuff like awakenings too.

Is changing the environment to their element a normal thing for all logias? Kuzan and Sakazuki were able to change the environment permanently on the island they had their battle.

I'd assume you need some training with your logia fruit to gain power that massive, but on a whole Logias have greater abilities than Paramecias, considering Oda even said the strongest Paramecia fruit (Whitebeard's) was only on par with a Logia.

It's outright stated that awakening allows you to do things with a paramecia that normally only logia's could do.

Turning buildings to string for instance. Luffy is unable to just make other things rubber.
