Probably just to remind Guts of his place, and because he felt no remorse over it due to having become a demon

Part of it is probably also an attempt to reestablish his once dominant position over Casca, considering that he had already (pathetically) attempted to force himself on her somewhat in the scene where he sort of throws himself onto her (though, that could just be solely to keep Guts around by making Casca pity him and also stay). In general leading up to his sacrifice you can get an idea of his fucked mental state by examining his reaction(s) to Guts and Casca’s relationship and — more importantly — progress without him, etc.

Basically what Kyo said. Griffith has a very controlling personality and already felt loss when Guts left the Band of the Hawk. Along with wanting to get back at Guts, his most loyal subordinate going off on her own to form a relationship with the one who hurt him was extra salt in the wound.

Didn't Griffith say though that one he considers his equal and a friend is one who doesn't mindlessly obeys him and tries to accomplish things on his own, which was basically what led Guts to leave the band? I still wonder why Griffith would be kinda sad when Guts did what basically Griffith said one should do to be of consideration to him...

A parent typically wants their kid to become independent, but that doesn't stop them from feeling sad when the kid leaves home.

His actions make it clear Guts was the exception to his rule and that he considered him a friend long before that. After all, he wouldn't risk his life against Zodd for an expendable pawn.

Didnt Griffith even say that Guts was the only one who made him forget his dream, prior to being swallowed up into that egg? So yea, adding to CCs post, Guts was the only person who made Griffith lose sight of his rule and goal.
