Why didn't Chaozu use his psychic powers against Piccolo Daimao?

At the part where Daimao was just about to make the wish to restore his youth, Chaozu attempted to intervene but failed. Why didn't Chaozu use his psychic powers to prevent Piccolo from blasting him, and then make the wish to destroy Daimao?

Because of plot and probably he was acting on instinct alone rather than thinking, "Wait a second, I have a technique that can hold him still."

He would probably still find a way to die even with Piccolo paralyzed. That, or Piccolo powers up and breaks free of the paralysis.

Probably so since he completely tank Kid Goku's Kamehameha. Like against Nappa, his psychic powers fails to paralysis him.

Perhaps he needs to be a certain % of his opponent in order for his power to work. He was unable to paralyze Nappa.

Agreed with Zoro. I think if the gap is so massive, the technique won't work.

But he should at least try it, since he tried on Nappa and was a bit surprised it didn't work.

It's not like his psychic powers are hard to break. Kuririn used math, nappa was too strong. Tao beat blue despite his powers as well, also nappa. Kaioshin had a hard time with gohan etc.

Same reason it didn't work on Nappa and Blue didn't use it on Tao
