...stretch their hand out to in-front of their face & stretch their fingers & then look at their hand? sometimes done when stretching their hand to the sky.

I can't find any images, nor can I really remember any specific instances but I do think I've seen it quite a few times.

Like I try & explain it:

1) The characters sometimes lay on the floor or on the ground, like grass area.

2) Sometimes they are outside (might actually be a-lot of times).

3) They stretch their arm out to right in-front of their face, like stretch-out completely. The hand is up since they are on the floor so it's sort-of reaching right-up to the sky.

4) They also stretch out their hands. Not a fist but the opposite like fingers stretched out & all.

5) Back of the hand is facing the character.

6) Character looks emo sometimes.

Ah, I understand what you mean now.

In most cases, it usually revolves around them striving for something far out of reach for them, in the same way the sky and heavenly bodies cannot be reached by grabbing them. It would've likely been a symbolic part of visual storytelling that eventually became an anime cliche.

I see.

It's funny that it has become such a cliche, that I someone has to wonder what it even is now. :troll :troll :troll

It's symbolic

It's usually meant to imply their goal appears far away or out of reach.
