True, but I mean there have been a-lot of gods before Kami and even Dende after Kami, but Mr. Popo seemed to be especially close to the Kami we know.

Well, Kami has been there in the temple with Mr. Popo for more than 100 years, so it's to be expected that Mr. Popo would develop this kind of affection towards him. I dunno whether he was closer to Kami tbh, his relationship with other Gods was never shown or expanded upon.

He was also happy when he knew Goku decided to make someone else a Kami-Sama, so it can be said that Popo also enjoys having a company... which is to be expected from someone living in a so lonely place like that one. I also find it funny knowing that Mr. Popo was there in the temple wayyy before the Kami-Sama-we-know-of got there... Popo surely is a mysterious guy.
