This is happening - a couple of years after seeing Monty Oum on an episode of The Gootecks & Mike Ross Show.

On Season 1, Episode 2.

Lmao

Yeh it was quite good. I have like 15 tabs open though. I'll try to watch an ep today. They're only like 6 minutes long.

It's been funny every episode, but some more serious character development has started to emerge. The action sequences are really well done. On Season/Volume 1: Episode/Chapter 15 now.

Fuck, I forgot about this topic. Could've made several posts.

I'm on Season 4 now. The fights in the first three seasons were quite possibly better than anything I've ever seen in any anime. At least on par with DB/Z and well-animated fights like Naruto vs Sasuke (end of part 1) and Gon vs Hisoka (in that tower), at minimum. Even the fucking food fight in Season 2 is better than 95% of anime fights. Some characters got some swanky dance moves too.

Season 3 is darker than Season 1 or Season 2. Season 4 takes place very much in the shadowy aftermath of Season 3 and is focused more on character development than action, but there are still fights. Some of the characters who were neglected in the first few seasons get the spotlight and prove to be fairly interesting. Ren, for example, doesn't talk much in the first two seasons (maybe because the voice actor was also the lead animator, so would be busy often? Or maybe he always planned to have Ren get more lines later on) but is now pretty vocal and shows himself to be quite insightful.

The animation in Volume/Season 4 is very different to in the first 3 seasons. In the first volumes, they used a program that is nicknamed Maya to make the character models and used another program called Poser for the rest of the animation. In Season 4, they totally switched over to Maya, which is seen as the superior program. To me the backgrounds look more anime-esque and detailed now and the characters also look anime-esque, as they are more 2d. However, I made a thread on reddit and interestingly a few respondents thought that the original style was more anime-esque. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/RWBY/comments/8jaoxr/does_anybody_else_prefer_the_character_models_in/ )

The fight scenes have had a definite dip due to the lead animator/fight choreographer not being present, but apparently it improves again somewhat in Season 5, although I'm not expecting it to reach peak levels. It's lucky that by the time the fight quality diminished I was already invested enough in the actual plot and characters. Qrow is a pretty cool addition to the show too.
