Would Chappa have gone far in the 22nd?

Krillin, Yamcha, even Roshi himself all call him an extraordinary fighter and were amazed that Goku beat him so quickly. Even after the fight Yamcha was basically shitting himself. Could he have beaten the lower tiered noobs?

I doubt it. Kuririn did much better against Goku than Chappa did. Even though Goku was obviously holding back against Kuririn, I don't see any reason for him to be holding back more than he was against Chappa.

Well, wasn't Yamcha basing his prediction off of Goku from three years ago? He did say that Goku didn't look like he improved much. He may have been shocked by how much he improved, considering that he trained by himself rather than Kame sennin.

Yeah, I don't think I was disputing your point. I can see though why others'd think Yamcha'd wreck Chapa-o. It's a weird situation, but you can kind-of still do it. Even numerically.

Yamcha was seemingly shown as on another level. It's almost like AT wrote the story as if he went along, which he obviously did so maybe it's just a weird retcon. Who knows?

It's really the same as Ten only feeling that Goku perhaps killed Tao after seeing him wreck Pamput, despite the fact that he fought Yamcha who is > Tao.

I think they weren't just shocked at Goku's performance against Chappa, but at the expressions Goku had during the
fight, making those feats look like nothing. Yamcha/Krillin could probably replicate those feats, but only if they fought
to their limits.
After seeing Goku's relaxed face at producing a power close to his own max, Krillin tests the waters by saying to Goku
''careful, don't put all your strength in the first match''. When Goku confirms the bald head's suspicions that what they'd
seen wasn't all his power, Krillin/Yamcha were like ''how much power is he hiding, is it possible that we're screwed here?''.
But, till he fought Goku, Krillin wasn't sure how much power Goku was hiding, so he still felt a slim hope.
