So theres a picture circulating the internet of three characters that look like they belong in the dragonball-verse and strike a resemblance to goku, gohan and goten. The caption that reads under them said Would you have watched if they was black. I made a video talking about this subject here

But if you are too busy to watch the video. In the comment section of the video people were basically hating on each other, calling each other racists left to right. It was quite ugly. I liked the topic so I shared the picture to my own fanmade Dragonball Facebook page.

I woke up this morning and saw a message in my inbox from someone saying that I was promoting racism because I posted the picture. I looked, and it had gone off from the people who are liked on my page. Calling each other or me racist for the picture. I am honest enough to share my own thoughts on the question that seems to have cause such an uproar. Back in the 90's if all the characters from DBZ were black I probably would not have got buried into the show as hard as I did because the show would have had to change so many things to accommodate the change from asian characters to black characters. Now if for the most part only Goku, Gohan or Goten were black. Much of the show could have stayed the same as long as at least chi chi remained asian. I would deff got as buried into it as I did the original, if not more so since the Goku and Chi Chi dynamic would be interesting. I do think its high time they add some characters of color into the show, and hopefully Super does this. So far the only one that I can think of is Uub. Anyway I thought I would share this here and see exactly what you guys think? And be honest. Thanks for your time guys!

Well I didn't watch DBZ because they're white (and green) :idk

I don't know how popular an "all-black" Dragon Ball Z would've been, but if it was just as popular and I came across it the same way, of course I'd watch it. I don't give two diddlies about skin colour or gender in entertainment.

The fact it is even brought up is racist cause any normal person wouldn't even think about shit like this.

On a side note, I used to think Uub was black, as in African, until I learned he was like an Indian boy.... He is the Dhalsim of DB!

Things that would have to change if they were all black.
The food that they eat, the cloths they would wear, the character designs, even the dragon and dragonball have an asian theme to them.
Not to mention that a lot of the show's writing would have to be in english at least. I honestly wouldnt trust Akira Toriyama to do this anyway, he added a lot of 90's looks to the human background characters and bulma. Theres no guaranteeing he wouldnt have done that with the entire cast that would have dated the show quite a bit. Also Toriyama doesnt seem to show very good sensitivity with the black characters that he has added to the show. Most of the time they are stereotypes with big cartoonish bubble lips and if the english dub is anything to go by they speak sorta fast a gibberishly. I dont have much faith in him gaining sensitivity if all the characters were black. So The show would then have to be made by somebody else.

That wouldn't be Dragonball at all. That wouldn't even air on the west since even Mr. Popo was drawn as blue color on Nicktoons lol.

Yeah most people don't give a shit about the race of any given character. If the DBZ cast were all originally black I don't think that'd change much, and I'd probably discover it all the same.

The Japanese are far too racist to have done something like that.

Look at fucking Popo, that's what Black DBZ would have looked like.

I would have but only if the characters were the same and was not all like "Man Chi Chi this fried chicken and waffles dinner is bomb". Cause that be just stereotyping.

Maybe he's Guyanese so we could have it both ways. Mellavelli made Uub live in South America.
