Yugi vs Mai questions/ How do Swords of Revealing Light work in DK Saga?

At the end of her duel against Yugi, why did Mai say, 'If I had been able to play a Harpy earlier, I wouldn't have lost'? What prevented her from playing one before the SORL wore off?

As we saw during the duels Yugi vs Panic and Yugi vs Kaiba (pre DK tournament), the swords still allow the opponent to summon monsters on the field and, moreover, those monsters are unaffected by the swords. Mai didn't even need to count on the additonal boost Harpie Pet Dragon would get by the new Harpy. She could have just attacked Kuriboh with Harpy and win!

I know that, back then, rules constantly changed in favor of Yugi, but is there any in universe explanation?

It seems like according to Death-T/Duelist Kingdom rules, Swords of Revealing Light doesn't affect newly summoned monsters. Case in point: Kaiba's third Blue-Eyes destroyed Yugi's Dark Magician without being hampered by the SRL.

So, why did Mai said she couldn't play a Harpy before SORL expired?

According to the wiki, it's an error?

Mai was unable to summon her fourth "Harpie Lady" due to the effect of "Swords of Revealing Light" preventing it. In the first Duel between Yugi and Kaiba, Kaiba was able to play "Judge Man" after "Swords of Revealing Light" was used against him; similarly, PaniK was able to play Metal Guardian while Yugi's Swords was in effect.

Try reading the manga version of the duel, there might be an explanation there. The anime often tried to work better with the real life version of the card game (even if the life points and summoning rules were different in this saga) and changed some stuff.

I read it. There's no explanation. All Mai says is she's going to play her fourth Harpie when Swords leaves the field. I'm not seeing any reason for why this happened in the rules I'm reading, especially if something different happened in prior duels from the same arc.
