So, after talking with SS2 about forum activities, we decided to do a communal watch of a series. SS2 gave me free reign of the series of choice, which we'll watch over the next two months or so starting from 1st March (or whenever everyone wants to), watching 2 episodes per day. The series in question is Legend of the Galactic Heroes. A synopsis for it can be found here: https://myanimelist.net/anime/820/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu?q=ginga%20ei

Just a few pointers for those before watching:

- The series contains a heavy amount of dialogue relating to world building and characters, with many of the character dialogue featuring much intellectual discussion. If you're after mindless entertainment over dialogue focused work, it's not entirely recommended, though the battles within the series are still very entertaining.
- The complexity of it's world building makes it necessary you pay full attention to detail, as even some of the minor events can be catalysts for major ones down the line.
- The series is 110 episodes long, hence why it will carry on into the month after.
- It spends most of the first arc focusing heavily on characterisation and fleshing out the world rather than fast paced conflict. Don't be turned off by the seemingly slow pace of the early episodes, as the plot constantly builds to increasingly greater heights starting from around episode 15 or so.

It's available to watch on Youtube atm, so that's probably the easiest place to access it.

Hope we get a lot of people to partake in this. :nice

I've only seen the first few episodes so I'm willing to participate in this.

Seen it twice now. Undoubtably the best anime (or fictional series in general) I've ever experienced.

It's widely considered a classic. Not sure if I'll be able to commit to two a day or not.

I'd say at worst you can watch at your own pace, you'd still be able to comment and give feedback.

Should we get this going today/tomorrow? I may watch 1 today and 1 tomorrow to get my 2 done for tomorrow.

That sounds fair in both points. We'll start discussion tomorrow, though you can feel free to start now.

I'd advise watching the first two together for the best experience though, since they both cover the event of one major battle, whilst the next several aren't as much of a two-parter as the first two.

Sure, I didn't end up starting last night so that works perfectly.

I'll probably jump in on this. I have enough free time outside of work to do two a day.

Well, all the Imperials are German, the reason for that cultural divide being explained around episode 45 iirc. Yang Wenli's also likely Chinese, considering he follows the tradition of having his surname before the forename.

Also, Lapp's death is pretty interesting, looking back in retrospect. Despite him being a very minor character, the amount of events for the Alliance members that his death kicked into gear are surprisingly significant.

So far Wenli and Reinhart (?) are my favourites. I like how they are trying to outwit one another. It's like a giant chess game.

Yeah, Yang Wenli and Reinhard von Lohengramm are some of the best characters seen within the medium. You'll probably find them awesome once you start getting a deeper insight into their ideologies.

My personal favourite though would be Oscar von Reuental. You'll probably see why when you get up to Season 4.
