On ep 14, which is the ep after Goku and Vegeta start fighting. Goku has just gone KKx3 for the first time. Episode 13 had some of my favourite visuals of the whole franchise, like 5 or 6 of them. I know this episode will have more.

The score is starting to feel more appropriate, but the jazzy/funky bits during serious scenes are off-putting.

Well they're going to look for Nappa's ship. Bulma got pretty ecstatic, then the rest of the crew did too. I wonder what comedy would've ensued if Roshi, Oolong and Puar had gone to Namek haha. It's pretty cool that one of the weaker original characters got to go to Namek - another reason why Namek is easily my favourite of the DBZ arcs.

The Vegeta Arc was good too though. I wasn't sure when Gohan was going to transform, since Vegeta was already really beat up, which made me wonder if that was even canon, but once Gohan's tail showed up....he was transformed for less than an episode, which I feel like is a lot less than in the original Z. By the looks of the video thumbnails, Goku is going to be making his spirit bomb against Freeza in about 25 episodes, which is crazy considering how much longer it took in Z. This series feels less like a real anime and more just like a pure throwback, what with the spoilery titles and spoilery advert break animations, plus the overly casual music.

Well Vegeta had his scariest episode ever. Creepy moment with Gohan, followed by seething bloodshot eyes.

I'm disappointed that Goku's gravity machine malfunctioning was filler. That was pretty riveting when I watched it in the past and was a cool lucky break....really played into the whole destiny/messiah thing.

I thought this was a bot topic when I saw that cancerous title, and I almost deleted the thread before I finally saw what you posted.

I can't complain about that description. It's an old joke. Kyo might get it.

Today I learnt of another staff member. Welp, time to eat some chicken.

Oh yeh man, I'm certainly enjoying it a lot. I've been reminded of how much of a villain Vegeta was and I'm interested to see how that starts to fade and when he becomes more of a Z fighter. On Namek he lets Krillin and Bulma live because he's in a good mood.

Related to that, something I've taken note of quite a bit is how much Goku and Vegeta's fight with each other is mentioned by the both of them afterwards. Goku repeatedly comments on how he has to get stronger because of Vegeta, but on top of that also says that his fight with Vegeta "wasn't for nothing", since he's getting stronger quickly in his training afterwards. On Namek, Vegeta tells Cui, Dodoria and Zarbon that he's a lot stronger due to almost dying in battle on Earth - they both really appreciate their fight with each other. I know AT has claimed that he only planned Dragon Ball one week in advance, but obviously that's not totally true (since he knew Goku would be a saiyan as early as Kami's introduction) and you can see as early as the Vegeta vs Cui that he probably planned for Goku and Vegeta to have an important relationship with one another.

The soundtrack placement has improved immensely now that it's onto a more serious arc. Holy shit, Namek is a thrill. It's totally manic: Krillin, Gohan, Zarbon and Vegeta all rushing around on this planet without knowing who else is there or what their motives are.

I'm watching the sub. When I watched DB and Z it was the Funimation dub until the episode where Buu heals the blind kid, at which point I began watching in spanish japanese.

I've been downloading the movies and skipped through Fusion Reborn (movie 12) today. Noticed that Funimation used some Dream Theatre in their History of Trunks soundtrack, when 17 is destroying stuff. I might watch the movies in English eventually, because at least in movie 12, King Kai is funnier than in Japanese.

I watched episode 4 yesterday. Might just use your thread to comment on Kai.

Watched episode 6. Some of the filler is still quite bothersome, but overall this is much more tolerable so far.

Yeh I'm kinda disappointed by how much filler there is. I mean, some filler did improve the series imo (Goku's training on the way to Namek and Freeza shaking Krillin on his horns, plus I liked having Gohan's initial training/survival be fleshed out), but I just want to watch the manga. I keep saying stuff on F in DBZ discussion topics and making a fool of myself, because Kai is still too different from the manga.

I've just started Goku vs Freeza. It was like "this is it!". A lot of moments like that in DBZ for me.

Vegeta's death, even in the Japanese Kai got my eyes tearing up. I'm looking forwards to seeing the changes that him, Piccolo and Gohan go through over the course of the Android/Cell Sagas. Piccolo probably doesn't have too much change left, but he still has his fusion with Kami and where I'm at right now, a lot of the cast still don't trust him much (probably all the humans apart from Krillin, although they should know about him saving Gohan).

Vegeta's deluded bragging about being a Super Saiyan against Freeza reminded me of when he was obsessed over being "Super Vegeta" against 19. Egotistical as fuck.

Holy shit Goku's transformation was pathetically underwhelming compared to the original. It just used the normal fucking goofy music, rather than anything evil or even any unique piece and it didn't have the deep voice that he has momentarily at the moment of transformation.

It's more just like a superficial homage for pre-existing fans than something that a version that would be appropriate for someone experiencing Dragon Ball for the first time ever.
