Piccolo vs Chaozu's Self Destruct

1. Piccolo sees Krillin's Scatter Shot and calls it very powerful.

2. Nappa tanks the Scatter Shot and the cast is in shock.

3. Nappa does a tremendous power up and scares the hell out of everyone. Piccolo can't believe that Nappa has become this strong.

4. Chaozu blows himself up in an attempt to kill Nappa. The cast assumes Nappa was killed and are shocked when they find out he isn't killed. Not only that, he has taken no damage.

So there's some major power chain issues going on here that no one has ever figured out.

First the Scatter Shot chain...

Actual Nappa > Self Destruct > Expected Power-Up Nappa > Actual Nappa > Expected Nappa > Piccolo ~ Scatter Shot

Point being? The Self Destruct most likely would kill Piccolo or at least severely wound him at bare minimum.

This FACTUAL power chain destroys all power level lists for this section.

Or maybe nobody around had time to estimate the power of an instant-explosion attack; they just expected it to do a lot of damage because of the visual effects and the fact that Chaozu sacrificed his life.

Man that gives Krillin some pretty dismal ki amp if his Scatter Shot is only equal to Piccolo. With the way the attack was respected, you'd think it would far exceed 1.33x...

1.33x should still be considered a solid amp don’t you think?

Not only does it maintain the same amp as Kamehameha, but it can be split into multiple blasts. That should be good.

Yamcha’s Kamehameha is a FP blast as well imo.

Yeah it's just plot. There needs to be tension even if they should technically know the result.

Yeah that’s why I think all this expected stuff is bs. Just saying Self destruction > Scatter Shot is already giving them the benefit of the doubt.

It’s even a well established fact that they can’t sense Ki if they’re too emotional. Whenever Freeza transforms on Namek there’s always someone saying he didn’t change much.

In the Freeza Saga, we always have a reliable narrator. Same should be true for Saiyan Saga.

You’re the one adding things. What did they expect the explosion to do? Kill him? Cripple? Hurt a bit? What gap is needed here? You’re working with information the story does not give us.

Self Destruct is expected to kill someone who tanked a blast as strong as Piccolo. There’s no getting around this one.

While I agree that Nappa was 2x Kuririn's technique I don't think the characters necessarily have specific multipliers in their head. They can sense ki but they aren't numerical scouters and would necessarily know how strong you would have to be "to do this" or "do that".

Let's say Scatter Shot is 1800 bare minimum. So "Expected" Nappa is 3600 and Actual Nappa is 7200 going by you.

See that doesn't work? Nappa doesn't reach the 7ks until fighting at his peak against Goku.
