1997 Berserk Anime

Has anyone else here watched the 1997 Anime? If so, what did you think about it?

I'm not one of those fans who believes that Golden Age Berserk is the best Story Arc of all time but I actually thought the 1997 Anime was peak Berserk, specifically for how it handles the Golden Age and the Band Of The Hawk. We don't see as much traumatic events in the Anime nor do we see as much foreshadowing for Griffith's betrayal, but that's what makes the Eclipse all the more surprising and impactful. It focuses more on the Hawks than the Manga does and lets you get more attached to them because there's less focus on the foreshadowing for Story Arcs after the Black Swordsman Arc too, like no Skull Knight, no Wyald, etc.

Obviously the artwork isn't as good as the Manga's and the animation is dated but these are both relatively minor flaws in my opinion.

My only exposure is the 1997 anime. I didn't realize there's a 2016 version. I also played the PS4 game, Band of the Hawk. It's a musou type of game, which was an automatic play for me since I'm a die hard KOEI and Dynasty Warriors fan.

I only watched once, and it's been a while. I recall the show filling my needs for an anime at the time.

Yeah it was really solid. I'd like to watch it again to really solidify an opinion on it. But yeah some of the omissions were disappointing.

I watched it all on my phone, in bed. The site was either animeboy or possibly youtube. It was good at the time and I looked for something similar afterwards, so I read some of the Korean comic Ares, as it's set in old Europe and was supposedly like Berserk (I'd not read any manga before that). The opening song was good and fit the show and Gutts' solitude quite well. I gave it a 7/10, whatever the fuck that means (I didn't really think about ratings critically or have an established way of assessing them, as I'd only seen a few anime).
