Nothing suggests his ability to detect powers below him are compromised though. What he cannot do is judge the powers so much higher than he anticipated. He does not realize just how much more superior the Super Saiyans actually are. But he should be able to tell that Suppressed Piccolo ~ Humans in my opinion. But you are right, it doesn't have to be taken as gospel.

Haha BPP, my idea of "realm" here, is taken a page from the Freeza Saga. Compare the Base Saiyans to everyone else, clearly they are on astronomically different levels. But if you are 10-15% of a Base Saiyan at these elite levels, it's impressive no?

As you can see, this is still somewhat in the realm of a BASE FUCKING SAIYAN. Krillen being 25% of Base Fucking Vegeta is insane. That is highly respectable wouldn't you agree?

Also, let's not forget that these are new and improved Base Saiyans. Base Saiyan Goku/Vegeta on Namek would not be Gods to this crew me thinks.

So that's why I think Namek Base Saiyan level is where the Humans top out. And that level is ultra impressive.

But Gero also stated that absorbing Piccolo's suppressed energy twice would let him defeat Vegeta, which can't really work numerically.

But that would make Gohan a lot weaker than base Goku. Goku said Gohan would be a good training partner once he turned into a SSJ, so I think base Goku should be at least fairly close to his father.

Gohan is a great training partner, Goku can use nearly half of his power in base during the Android Saga. So being half of his power of super Saiyan would be even better

If anyone had to guess, what would Gero's "calculated limits" on Goku and co's powers be?

When Goku transformed, Gero said he went beyond the numerical calculations. Same with Vegeta and Piccolo later. I believe he also said there was no way Goku would ever have a drastic power-up like he did when he was younger. Gero should've slipped a spy robot into his spaceship to see what was really up.

Well, Gero said something like "there's no way you can get much stronger than you were at the last battle", right? So I think he estimated Goku and co. were already a bit close to their limits. So I'd say the estimated power was even below Captain Ginyu's, personally.

Gero's line towards SSJ sick Goku "You surpassed our estimations by far, but you are still no match for us" doesn't suggest he was able to read that kind of power?

He should've been able to read that power, but he later makes a statement that was identical to his initial statement, showing surprise again:

No.20: “I see…You seem to have achieved a truly considerable power-up. It’s a strange technique…This greatly surpasses our calculated figures…”

No.20: “…Kuh…! Th-this power up greatly exceeds my estimated data…Th-this is bad. Like this, No.19 will run out of energy before he steals any power…”

So initially, the power-up is greatly beyond his calculations, but at a level where #19 can handle him. Not too long after, the data being beyond his calculations is a problem because #19 is getting his ass kicked.

I get the feeling that his power radar is kinda ass and doesn't read levels correctly once they reach certain levels. You could say Goku raised his power, but the emphasis seems to be on the power-up itself simply going beyond his calculations. Gero's radars most likely couldn't calculate the power of a Super Saiyan accurately. When Vegeta transformed, he thought the outcome would be no different than when Goku did it.

He seems to be pretty accurate with Super Saiyan Sick Goku at least. He says if 19 absorbs any energy and Goku's decreasing state, then that means...

So I think it was powers like Vegeta, Trunks, Healthy Goku, that he found difficult to accurately gauge. Remember, 19/20 are supposed to be much stronger than the Saiyans.

My guess is that his power reader just gives an error message or something past a couple hundred million, but doesn't short out or break like the scouters do.
