Anybody else wants to pretend it ended at Cell saga?

I realized that, after Cell saga, the series is gradually becoming more and more ridiculous.
The omnipotent caricatures that keep being introduced are an insult to the old omnipotent
warriors that are now reduced to trash.
The series started as a gag series (up to 22nd TB saga). Then, it evolved into a dark
masterpiece, only to go back to its former self, starting from Buu saga. I'm not saying it's
bad that it started this way. But, since AT decided to change it into something deeper in
the way, returning to the ridiculous atmosphere of the origins degrades the shine of the
middle sagas (King Piccolo - Cell). In other words, it's a devolution proccess.
Sometimes, i consider convincing myself that it trully ended at Cell Games, making PL lists
that only go up to that point, being like ''Majin Buu, Beerus, who are those? Never heard of
them''. Is there anybody else who feels likewise?
Dunno, perhaps AT should've stopped Dragonball after Cell and begun a new series, if he wanted
to make something gagly, or write the following sagas as an out of universe parody of the original
Dragonball.

Ending at Freeza or Cell would work for me.

But I won't lie, I love new material, even though it is at times very ridiculous and over the top, even for anime.

Still better than Naruto or Bleach and shit.

I didn't like BOG or FNF, but I like the new arc in Super. I don't really pretend anything, although I do wish it ended at the Freeza arc because all the contradictions that the editors made afterwards by forcing Toriyama to make last-minute changes were fucking ridiculous. The original series still ended at the Boo saga and that's that.

I even think the Cell saga was already a bit forced, with the mighty guy in the Universe being surpassed by an Earth scientist's androids, whereas his android at the Red Ribbon saga (#8) was weaker than Tao Pai Pai, a being million of times weaker than Freeza.

Still, I think the end at the Cell saga, with Gohan replacing his father as "the protector of Earth" would be a really good end, and that was where Toriyama thought to end Dragon Ball, but was 'forced' to continue it, so I cannot really blame him.

I really adore the Cell arc, and like the ending, but I also really like Boo.

I'm not as critical of the series as other people are. I just hate Super and dislike GT.

Toriyama was already going to end it at the Piccolo Jr. arc in fairness. Since he clearly didn't even plan Freeza during the Saiyan arc, that can apply to any arc beyond his original plans for DB.

It's interesting how he creates it as he goes without excessive planning or anything. I admire that, even though that can often times lead to shit.

I would like to see a new series from him though.... Similar to DB as in fighting with super human abilities, but different.

Then we could debate about that guy VS. Goku cause nobody debates about Slump or Sandland characters VS. DB characters, dammit!

Yeah, the editorial forced him to create Piccolo Daimao to act as a real villain and not the comic relief ones he had before, which he went along with since he enjoyed his series back then, but after even his son was defeated, they made him stop his original plans to end it there and gave him a few weeks' hiatus for the rest of DB. After Vegeta he had to expand to the universe, after they beat the emperor they had to surpass time. After that came some being that killed the gods. And after that there was much milking. :troll

I'm not sure he would still be able to draw well nowadays, but I'd be interested in a new series too, just with no alien shit.

Did Toriyama really plan to end it at the Freeza saga? I heard it was just BS.

The current arc in DBS is no longer about space travel thankfully.

I'd hate having someone like that control my own story. Fuck that shit, I'd print it on toilet paper and sell it for $2.50 a piece.

He said he originally planned for the series to last only 10 volumes, but told his readers it wouldn't end after the Piccolo Daimao arc later. I'm sure I've read that he wanted to end it after Piccolo Jr., but then he was forced to continue several times. He was told he could end it at Cell, but then some guy from the Japanese ministry of art or something even came and asked him to draw another arc and that's what led to Boo

From what I gather, he wanted to end it after every arc since Piccolo Jr, as papa said.

I think he had to get all stern about ending it at Boo lol.

It'd be cool to see DB/Z, but in AT's complete vision with no input from editors and the like.

I don't think any arcs had overly excessive editorial control except Cell, besides the fact that Toriyama was made to continue. Piccolo Daimao, Vegeta, Freeza, and Boo were all either mentioned or shown on screen very early into their respective arcs.
