I know it was stated that some of them used Armament Haki during Marineford but how come none of them had the black color like Luffy has when he uses it?

Probably because Oda had yet to flesh out that concept. There's a similar case in Super with how prior to the U6 tournament, SSJB just had a generic Super Saiyan aura in the manga as opposed to having the Ki bubbles flowing inside it.

Is there a difference between the two? Luffy sometimes says Armament Reinforcement in the translation that I read.

I just assume that the top tiers were using it invisibly. It's like how Shanks used Conqueror's Haki in Romance Dawn despite Haki not existing. When you get to the current part of the story, it makes no sense whatsoever for the top tiers among the Marines and Whitebeard's crew to not be using it. Akainu did state that some were using it (Marco, Jozu, etc).

Blackbeard mentions the term Haki when he first met Luffy in Jaya, so we know Haki was commonplace among the Whitebeard Pirates long before the Summit War Saga at least.

It is invisible because it's from the perspective of Luffy who doesn't know about Haki or does it require skill to make it invisible?

Luffy already had Haki earlier in the series and even activated Haoshoku Haki in Marineford. I think it's just a visual cue that Oda decided to implement in Part 2.

I'd agree with that 100% but the only thing that's making me questioning it is that it's not always consistent.

The second level of Advanced Armament Haki is invisible.

It's possible that this type was being used, but it's most likely that Oda hadn't developed the black coating for level 1 Armament Haki yet.

That's the One Piece Wiki right? It says that the black coating is called Armament Haki Hardening, so technically there are at least 3 levels.

There's regular coating (lv 1), lv 2 which is described above, and level 3 which allows you to damage the enemy from within with your own Haki. Levels 1 and 2 are common in the New World.

But the coating is not always consistent even post timeskip. That Big Mom Pirate who punched the Logia that I showed above had to have used Armament Haki but it's clearly invisible. That's why I'm thinking the black coating is a step above the invisible variant.

That's likely level 2. I don't recall other examples where Haki was used invisibly (intentionally)

Why would seasoned fighters like Jozu not use higher levels of Armament Haki though? It appears that visual cue was just added in Part 2.

This is the most recent breakdown. There's no mention of a form of Haki below the coating stage.

Idk why. I'm just saying that the ''visual cue'' isn't always consistent even in part 2.

Level 3 is only shown to be used by Prime Roger, Rayleigh, Whitebeard and current Luffy. It's not common. Those guys likely have level 2.
