Awakening

Do you guys have a good grasp of what a Devil Fruit awakening really is? In Doflamingo's case, it allowed his Paramecia fruit to have some Logia type properties, but what did it do for Crocodile? Also what do you think Luffy would be able to do with Awakening?

Environmental manipulation seems to be something to do with Awakening. Crocodile's Awakening likely has similar properties if assuming he indeed has it already, given that Alabasta only started raining after his defeat, which his DF shouldn't be capable of manipulating without Awakening. Luffy's Awakening would likely be able to offer elasticity to any object he makes contact with. Gear 4th Boundman seems to be the initial stage towards this.
